Yes, in North Carolina the Republicans have a super-majority in the state legislature which means they can override any of the governor's vetoes and pass whatever they want.
I would say it couldn't be any worse, but being its NC it could. You all could have Mark Robinson for Governor
Another artifact of our flawed healthcare system, ambulance rides are cheaper if don't have insurance than if you do have insurance. This is because most local governments (city and county) discount ambulance rides for those lacking insurance -- as a service to their constituents. Due to this those with insurance find themselves with higher bills even after insurance pays their portion. I looked into this in our local area of N.C. -- and it holds true with most of our local counties and cities. People with no insurance get steep discounts on ambulance rides while those with insurance land up with much higher bills. ‘So you’re penalized FOR having insurance’: Man sends insurance info after getting bill for ambulance ride. He can’t believe his new total ‘I pay for insurance and end up paying more out of pocket.’ https://www.dailydot.com/news/california-ambulance-insurance-bill/
This clearly needs to be fixed. The entire relationship between healthcare and insurance needs a comprehensive overhaul.
