Finding locations with GPS coordinates on Google maps?

  1. Does anyone know if locations can be found on Google maps by entering the GPS coordinates?

Example. I would enter: N 49° 16.766' W 123° 07.696' and the google map would display of the location.

I would also like to zoom in on a google map, say of New York, and get the GPS coordinates of that location. I searched the web for this info, including Google, but couldn't find anything.

  2. Yes, you can get a readout in Lat/Long.

But I think you have to install the Google maps program tho, and also make sure you are using the same number system (ex: DMS vs Decimal).

Then it's a matter of goofing around with it until you figure it out. You can also overlay graphics (scanned maps) and geolocate them on the GOOG map. Very cool.

edit: just checked and I guess you don't have to load the app. here is an example:
