Financial Futures Newbie Question

Discussion in 'Forex' started by catmango, May 22, 2004.

  1. I'm interested in trading financial futures, and would like to know from people which tickers have the best liquidity? I looked at cme's monthly volume report, and the EuroFX (EC) has the best liquidity out of all the currency futures at 1.3mm/month. But, looking at the interest rate futures, the 3-mo eurodollar (ED) far surpasses it with 26.7mm/month.

Am I interpresting this correctly? I'm surprised that people here have claimed tight spreads on the currency futures when the EC volume only averages ~65k/day. Is the ED what most financial futures traders trade, and does the ED behave much differently from the EC?

Also, what brokers do people use to trade ED and EC? I'm only looking at a single contract, trading trends.

    Thanks!

  2. the EC is the european currency

the ED is a short term interest rate.

    Totally unrelated.

They trade totally differently, just take a look at an intrady chart of them. The EC is much more volatile.

I don't know of anyone outside the pit who daytrades the ED.
