While I admit not having closely read and followed this thread, I fully agree that riduling the messenger doesn't help or make much sense. History is clearly on the side of those who question. Just looking back at the last 100 years of so, we have US starting Spanish American War based on a lie; FDR is still suspected of suppressing intel about Pearl Harbor; Johnson escalated Vietnam war based on the fictional Gulf of Tonkin attack; and Bush II. used a boatload of lies to get us into into our current morass in Iraq.
