Fiji's new 'PM' says coup illegal but democracy overrated

Fiji's newly-appointed premier admits the military illegally ousted the elected government but says the nation did not need Western-style democracy.
In his first public comments a day after being sworn in, caretaker prime minister Jona Senilagakali defended the overthrow of what he termed a corrupt government and warned Australia and New Zealand not to interfere.
"It's an illegal takeover to clean up the mess of a much bigger illegal activity of the previous government," Senilagakali he told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).

"So what choice do you have? To me, it's better that you do this illegal activity to clean up a much bigger, illegal mess so that we can bring peace... to the people of Fiji," he said.

  2. US will not invade Fiji, because Fiji is not a threat to US security as there is no Al Qaeda in Fiji.
