In unrelated news, Michael Moore was apparently seen today being dragged into belevue in a straight jacket kicking and screaming. By Daniel J. Mitchell Hereâs a story for the better-late-than-never file. Former Cuban dictator Fidel Castro confessed that communism doesnât work and that his nationâs economic system should not be emulated. Fidel Castro told a visiting American journalist that Cubaâs communist economic model doesnât work, a rare comment on domestic affairs from a man who has conspicuously steered clear of local issues since stepping down four years ago. The fact that things are not working efficiently on this cash-strapped Caribbean island is hardly news. Fidelâs brother Raul, the countryâs president, has said the same thing repeatedly. But the blunt assessment by the father of Cubaâs 1959 revolution is sure to raise eyebrows. Jeffrey Goldberg, a national correspondent for The Atlantic magazine, asked if Cubaâs economic system was still worth exporting to other countries, and Castro replied: âThe Cuban model doesnât even work for us anymoreâ Goldberg wrote Wednesday in a post on his Atlantic blog. Too bad Castro didnât have this epiphany 50 years ago. The Cuban people languish in abject poverty as a result of Castroâs oppressive policies. Food is harshly rationed and other basic amenities are largely unavailable (except, of course, to the party elite). This chart, comparing inflation-adjusted per-capita GDP in Chile and Cuba, is a good illustration of the human cost of excessive government. Living standards in Cuba have languished. In Chile, by contrast, the embrace of market-friendly policies has resulted in a huge increase in prosperity. Chileans were twice as rich as Cubans when Castro seized control of the island. After 50 years of communism in Cuba and 30 years of liberalization in Chile, the gap is now much larger. http://www.opposingviews.com/i/uh-nevermind-fidel-castro-says-communism-doesn-t-work
No, he said the Cuban model doesn't work for Cuba anymore. Very different. And we'll never know the difference, had capital not declared a self-sacrificing war against the Cuban government with the distorting embargo. I do hope the embargo continues long enough to where the rest of the planet, including communist China, soaks up the investment opportunities in a new Cuba and cuts the US out.
LOL!!! The "investment opportunities" in a communist country. ROFLMAO!!! Wait, didn't you give us a rant a couple weeks ago about how you were against the corporate entity and how corporations with shareholders who control equity shouldn't exist? Now you are talking about how foreigners should make investments in Cuba?? ROFL!!! There's some flip-flop for ya.. Oh well, at least you are finally upfront and honest about all of your anti usa hateful sentiment.
