To answer the question on what happens if Mark Robinson drops out of North Carolina race for governor -- now that we are past the date for his name to be removed from the ballot.

Remember all the whining from Republicans about Kamala replacing Biden as the Democratic nominee?

Well now the Republican leadership in North Carolina want you to vote for Mark Robinson so they can select whoever they please to replace him as the governor if he happens to win. Sounds really democratic, eh. Certainly this will reflect the will of the voters.

What happens if Mark Robinson drops out of race for NC governor?

Some North Carolina Republicans are calling on their party’s gubernatorial nominee, Mark Robinson, to drop out of the race for governor following a report about comments he is alleged to have made more than a decade ago on a pornographic website.

Robinson has denied the allegations, reported by CNN, and has said he’s staying in the race.

But if that changes, here’s what could happen:

The ballot won’t change: Ballots started going out Friday morning to overseas and military voters. So Thursday would’ve been the last chance for Republican officials to go to court to try stopping those ballots — potentially buying at least a few days to find a replacement. Robinson didn’t ask to be removed, nor did the party. The fact they didn’t take that step indicates GOP leaders take Robinson at his word that he will stay in the race.

Ballots and the start of mail-in voting were already delayed once by the Republican-led state Supreme Court, in response to a GOP-backed lawsuit seeking to get ex-presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s name off the ballot after Kennedy endorsed Trump.

Robinson can still drop out, despite ballots: Even though the ballots won’t change no matter what, Robinson still can technically drop out of the race if he chooses. Under state law, it would be up to the executive committee of the North Carolina Republican Party to pick a replacement candidate. Party insiders say that committee is made up of several hundred GOP leaders and activists from across the state.

Votes transferred to replacement candidate: If state Republican Party leaders name a new nominee, they’d find themselves needing to convince voters that casting a vote for Robinson on the ballot this year wouldn’t actually go to Robinson, but rather to the replacement candidate. Such strategies are extremely rare, typically used in cases where a candidate dies shortly before an election.

No coming back, if you drop out: In a case where the person named on the ballot is still alive but has dropped out and been replaced by their party, state law says that person couldn’t try to claim the votes for themselves after the election.

In other words, if Robinson dropped out and then the GOP’s replacement candidate ended up winning, Robinson couldn’t attempt to claim he should be governor since his name was on the ballot. “A vote cast for the candidate whose name is printed on the ballot is required to be counted as a vote for the replacement nominee,” State Board of Elections spokesman Pat Gannon said.

the republicans would have no problem ignoring the will of the people.

Remember: every Republican accusation is a confession.

The most recent poll listed ended on Wednesday the 18th. The news story on Robinson and the porn site came out late in the afternoon on Thursday the 19th.

Robinson's gonna lose. The question is does Republican turnout drop so much that Trump loses the state and do Republicans lose state seats.

This exactly aligns with what our local media has been stating.

Robinson is dragging down Trump and other Republican politicians in our state.

I will note that ALL of Mark Robinson's staff have quit except for three people. Robinson’s campaign manager, deputy campaign manager, finance director, deputy finance director, two political directors, and the director of operations plus many others have left. Leaving two press reps and a bodyguard as the sole remaining people.

The ever prevalent Robinson ads on local TV have been totally missing since Friday. Sounds like all of this funding from the PACs, the state Republican party, and the GOP Governors Association have all evaporated.

North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson (R) “rejected multiple offers from supporters to connect him with information technology specialists to help the Republican gubernatorial nominee investigate racist and lewd comments on a pornographic website made by someone with a username that CNN tied to Robinson,” WRAL reports.

“Robinson’s alleged rejection of the offers sowed doubt among some staff members… His response in the wake of the report likely played a role in the exodus of some staff members.”

They are effectively ousting him by withdrawing funding for his campaign.

The good news locally is -- no more Robinson campaign commercials on T.V.
