I do not agree, i don't believe it has much value, what has greater value in my opinion is if a mentor can demonstrate to a student in real time that he's competent day after day, week after week and so on.... then the student is encouraged to open a live account as the student begins to acknowledge that he could clearly be the recipient of money that is being extracted as a result of his mentor's input.

Until regulations state that trading advisors must provide documentation, a trading advisor is not under obligation, and if a potential student does agree with the mentor, well then there is no arrangement that will be made, because a student is not under obligation to accept a business transaction that does not meet his terms, nor can the student have any claims of fraud either.

  2. According to you, the student should have to pay to find out whether or not the mentor is competent. If the mentor does not have a trading edge, the student gets ripped off. The only way to avoid that situation is for the mentor to provide proof of competence before taking the student's money.

Let's use your example of the flight instructor: Would you pay a flight instructor before you saw the appropriate certifications and proof of his/her competence?

  3. I can teach QWERTY how to fly!

Qwerty, I will show you the 7 principles of flying.

Then we will go through the 7 principles together through live chat. That would take a year or so and would probably cost $40,000, but you can pay me by installment.

After that, I'll teach you the mentality needed to become pilot, which will consist of 4 concepts, but that would take a few years to learn as well. That would cost $20,000.

Once you got all the principles and concepts memorized, we'll go for a sophisticated flying simulation called After Burner by Sega. I'll provide the hardware (Sega Master System) for another $1,000. For the manual, it'll cost $50. Once you completed After Burner, you will then be promoted to the rank of Microsoft Flight Simulator pilots. You will need to complete 10,000 hours of Microsoft Flight Simulation before you can graduate.

Fine Print: The ability of the student to fly depends on the student and the mentor/trainer take absolutely no responsibility of it. The mentor/trainer is not liable for any accident/damaged cause by the student.

Anyway, I am done with the thread. I have made my points and I am done making them against the snake oil salesmen and thier shills. Either I am right or wrong, it doesn't matter.

"I am a newbie, but I don't believe we require a mentor in order to achieve success in trading".

"Qwerty, I already feel that I am in debt to you for your insight from your postings on price action and how you explain it with charts and metaphor--battle between bulls and bears. Your mentorship is much appreciated, but I really would not know how I will be able to repay you for it".

"because I don't need a mentor. I never have and never will."

"Mark Douglas has a good book and I read it a couple of times".

"In the end, I do agree about trading can be done on our own. I am a firm believer in that".

I see that your web of lies continues, silly wabbit, oops, Pension_Admin, when will you ever learn? At this point are you really contributing to rational debate or are you just trying to salvage your image?

  6. I am just having a bit of fun at the poker table. Seriously, there isn't really a debate. The debate was already done before it was started.

Also, I don't need to salvage my image. I don't run a mentorship business, so I don't really care. I am nothing more than an alias in here.

Incorrect, there was no insinuation that a student pays 1st, it's in the interest of a potential student to 1st diligently take note of the mentor's input, compare that input with what a student's understanding is of the market and if the student and begins to notice an obvious disparity between both of them where the mentor is competent and the student is incompetent, then the student would then be encouraged to move forward in seeking an arrangement. The potential for fraud can only take place if a student sends money 1st before the education takes place, not after results are talied tomdavis.

Tiger Woods, the a living legend, who was his mentor? his lowly father, he certainly did not have sterling credentials or proof of his competence to teach the game of golf, how valuable was his influence on Tiger tomdavis? you apparently can't see the value of that can you? others around you surely see it, but you can't or will not acknowledge it because you want to see credentials 1st then you'll believe it, right? That is one example where a mentor or a coach does not need credentials to hone another person to be great.

Bill Gates, does he need to show proof that he's competent? does he have to show proof that he's competent in order to teach how computers work? he thumbed his nose at Harvard and did not graduate from that prestigious institution and now Harvard can surely need more of him if they could.
