FDA suspends domestic food inspections during government shutdown

    Here is the reality-- Plants that used to or were going to be inspected will not be because of Trump putting lives at risk.

    Let's address the facts.

    Here is the summary from the HHS 2008 Inspector General's report. Things have not changed from 2008 to 2018 except that even less inspections are done and more food processing plants have been opened up.

    "Fifty-six percent of food facilities have gone 5 or more years without an FDA inspection. FDA identified 51,229 food facilities that were subject to inspection and were in business from the start of FY 2004 until the end of FY 2008. Of these, 56 percent were not inspected at all, 14 percent were inspected a single time, and the remaining 30 percent were inspected two or more times."

    Bottom line - the suspension of FDA inspections during the government shutdown will have little impact on food safety in the U.S.
