  1. You really don't know that much about the instrument do you.
    Actually, I can do that.

looking at hendrix I was struck by two things. wow hands seemed to move pretty damn precisely and what a joke that outfit was.

    He was dressed like barbie.

Interesting that the rock stars back then dress in manner that would make them as least war like as possible.

  3. I've had a similar observation. After awhile the peace and love
thing devolved out of the San Francisco music movement with
increasingly harder drugs inviting rougher types who weren't averse to growing their hair long. These days metal is pretty much 180 degrees away from flower power. Take AC/DC power chord arrangements; they're anthemic marches, like something played to inspire troops into battle. Rock and roll abandoned Ghandi and identified with Hunter Thompson, after that, it was every man for himself. Poetry never stood a chance of holding the attention of the masses.
Are you saying Hendrix was a sissy? Ever see Ronald Reagan with a bandana around his neck? Cute.

I sort of saw it as aerosmith created glam rock spin offs with the duets and "power ballads" .
A reaction to that was grunge - which is I guess why I liked punk and grunge.

as a younger guy I did not think rock stars should be dressed like girls and wear makeup. I could not stand poison and tommy lees band and all those other glam losers.

I note punk was a reaction to the barbification of 70s rock.

Do I think Hendrix was a sissy - no - but he was certainly not a core as I would have expected.
He was a little barbie like when he was moving around.

  5. For me, rock n roll ...hell, music is a sound thing -- with the ears not the eyes. Even with acting if I suspect someone is cultivating
their image and I'm the giunea pig then I turn off. Grunge was a reaction to that, making the effort at keeping it about the music by dressing like everyday joe schmoes do. These days you can smell the management behind the scenes telling the talent how to dress and act on stage; its disengenuous and phoney. Thats why all the girl and boy bands get past the pockets filled with allowances because kids don't know anything; they'll get in the car with anybody. Entertainers have taken over where musicians held sway. You have to cherry pick and hunt to find something and often its called cult.

  7. Entirely different time and culture. Hendrix served in the military ironically before forming "Experience".

  10. That you would be so foolish as to say Hendrix "dressed like barbie" indicates you clearly have never been experienced...
