The KKK was started by Southern Democrats. Let's not mince words. The KKK originally was formed to oppose blacks, Republicans, and immigrants. Any official chapter of the the "Original Knights" (rather than the "White Knights" and "United Klans of America" - both formed in the 1960s) still does not allow Republicans to be members as stated very directly in their charter. There are still people in recent years who are members of the KKK who have ran as Democrats for office in rural counties in North Carolina. I have previously posted local newspaper articles about these individuals and the reaction of the state Democratic party --- plus the splintering of the Democratic party in North Carolina into mainstream (urban) and rural factions.
riiiight, I'm the one mincing words as if the Southern strategy never happened and as if southern dems weren't the conservatives later known as republicans. So tell us about this great migration of KKK dems that moved up north and how the KKK disappeared from deep red south and other red districts across the nation.
So tell us -- why are KKK members still running for office in North Carolina as Democrats? Also explain to us why 13 members of our state legislature in the 1990s were KKK members and all of them were Democrats? I have outlined all of this before --- with all the supporting articles and information from local media.
you're asking me why crazy people do crazy things? I'm not a psychologist, I don't know how the minds of racists work. To a casual political observer, I'd say republicans are registering as democrats and doing their KKK rounds to besmirch the party. Ditto for anyone KKK who kept their dem. registration. As to why people did not immediately evolve their views and carried them 30 yrs after the civil rights movement? I never claimed the "switchening" happened overnight for everyone or that everyone was on board. Show me where I claimed there are zero racist dems. I'll wait.
Educate yourself and read my posts regarding the schism between the mainstream (urban) and rural Democratic parties in North Carolina.
So the fact check basically says it cannot say whether this is true or false. Maybe you should go read it. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/clinton-gore-92-confederate/ Nobody ever accused Clinton of having KKK connections. But there is certainly strong evidence when he campaigned in the South there was campaign buttons and other items with Confederate flags being distributed among his supporters. Keep in mind when Bill Clinton was governor of Arkansas he approved the state flag design which included the confederacy reference. Bill Clinton, the Confederacy, and the Arkansas State Flag https://www.wsj.com/articles/BL-WB-56139 "In 1987, Mr. Clinton signed Act 116 reaffirming a state flag design that included a star symbolizing the state’s membership in the Confederacy."
Indeed.Super conservitive Trump supporting LA Senator John Kennedy stayed registered as a democrat until 2007.Anyone who knows Kennedy knows he was never libriel/progressive/ left wing
citation needed. And my point is that even in 1992, I could go out and buy a button press or order bumper stickers if I was a republican running a smear campaign on the opposition (or a troll in 20xx showing "1990's campaign material")
