In index futures like ES, YM, NQ? Nope. Unless you have some weird broker rules. I use IB and you need at least $2k to trade futures, even though NQ requires only $1750 - go figure - and ES requires $28xx. And you can churn it all you want. Different brokers have different reqs though, I'm sure. And of course there's the ptifall of actually trading futures. You can make all the DT you want, and so you end up overtrading = gambling IMHO, rather than waiting. Pick your poison.
Ooo you got it good over there at IB. NQ at TOS is ~3700, ES is ~5500. I think I may switch. Would you recommend IB?
Well, IB WAS that high when the VIX was up around 60, etc. But I like 'em. But then my requirements are pretty small. Their charts suck though. I use Quotetracker and am satisfied with that. I really don't use a lot of bells and whistles, etc either though. They're also pretty cheap and can use the IB data feed, etc. One thing that i really like about them, is that they automatically will liquidate your position if you're in margin violation. I'm sure it pisses off a lot of guys, but I know they're not gonna have margin calls out to people, so I consider my money safe with them.
Thanks, I'll look into that. I rly like TOS'chatrs, but they've been acting up lately. If TOS drops its margins, I'll stay but I'm definitely considering IB Now
Not bad, seems like a worthy risk. The bull could certainly argue that 875 on the S&P held today and then bid up the market again
It seems that I make calls pretty well. I might time then poorly on occasion or paint myself into a corner, but if I try to be patient in the entry i seem to call things pretty well I think. I don't mean anything by this at all, but it seems whenever everyone here thinks I am being stupid is when I end up making money, even if only incremental amounts. Of course as always, well see what happens.
