good points, but on the other hand, MAD concept breeds complacency and a reliance on the fact that no one will actually use them. In other words, the 'peaceful' effects of fear from use of nuclear arms are short lived. Every so often, some one will have to use them to show they mean business. Otherwise, empty threats breed responses likewise.

Only in the context of minor skirmishes, for instance, border disputes (India-Pakistan). MAD scuttles any full frontal attack initiated by any country. And thats the important part. Who's going to play nuclear brinkmanship??
