Failure to understand risk/reward and why you're losing as a trader.

You must not be looking at my videos on my journal. I show entries and exits while they are happening. Today 1-15-2025 I posted a video trading the NQ where I took a big loss scalping...around 181 points...and how I got it all back plus 73.50 points in less than 10 minutes scalping.

There are plenty of videos on my journal showing trading entries and exit as the market is unfolding live so I do in fact think I have show plenty of trades that show execution. Not just static charts but live videos as price was evolving live. I suggest you watch them if you have not watched them. There are links are in my journal.

If scalping the ES 1 to 8 points IMO I don't see any need to have a 100k account unless a trader is a swing trader or averaging down...holding overnight.. etc.

I'm very familiar with your work, and I do thank you for sharing this.

But you do also admit to trading SIM all the time, and for many of us, if we knew we are trading SIM, it would be easy to hold losers, double and triple down, reverse on double or triple size, etc. The hard part is doing this with a live account. Of course, doing the right thing vs. being scared to do it for fear of losing more money is something that needs to be overcome, but many posters say how much easier SIM trading is.

Some people say that since you are just trading the micro contracts, it might suggest that its just play money for you, and there is nothing wrong with that, but if trading the full contract, with multiple contracts even, the game is different. Trading for a living vs. trading as extra income also brings different challenges.

Lastly, both you and LF also only show what you want to show. This means that its super easy to show your strategy when it works, but just skip the times it doesn't. Now I'm not saying anyone has to show anything, but when discussing if swing trading vs. scalping is the better strategy, its only long term stats that can back this up. Its likely that both you and LF are making your own individual strategies work, but I think its also clear that nobody is convinced by either person's "proof".

Of course with trading, you only have to convince yourself and your own PnL will show the truth of the matter, but since neither is showing a monthly PnL, I think its ok for everyone to still be somewhat skeptical.

  4. First of all, this thread isn't about me or my 'method'. It was mostly meant to get people to think about what expectancy means and why they're likely losing $$$ and what possible steps they can take to address it (giving up being one, LOL).

Second, I never made any performance claims, nor do I endorse day trading or try to teach anyone how to do it like many others on this site. In fact, I'm warning people against it and suggesting they do something better with their life.

Today I was trading NQ not MNQ and with some size and I show Trades gone bad losing around 181 points not dollars and HOW I rectified it and got all back plus 73.50 points more in less than 10m. Did you watch that video? The link is in my journal.

I understand the SIM thing and live trading with real money. In my case I do both as I show a process and that can be shown live money or live SIM. It is the same data feed in my case. I use Sierra chart with live Denali data feed and Teton routing. Both are used in real trading and when I am a showing trading on a SIM.

Of course real money does carry emotional weight. I understand that. However I cannot mentor or ease a trader's emotions. That is entirely up to them and how they come to grips with that facet of trading. I am showing live how I scalp. I warn folks about scalping the way I do. I am clear it is just a showing how I trade and I am not telling anyone to trade that way.

And I don't just trade the micros as some may think. I have shown trading entries and exits on video recordings in NQ, MNQ, ES, and MES. I don't recall showing any live trading video in YM on a SIM or real money account but I have shown static charts not live of YM in my journal a few years back I think, if not mistaken. Nevertheless, understand that the techniques I show are simply showing how I scalp. The process is the same how I would scalp in any of those instruments except for the SL and PT changes from ES or MES as it is different that those SLs and PTs of say NQ..MNQ

As concerns showing we just want to show well that is a hard work around because what if I am doing real in one money account and terrible in another? I could say show a year of trades in one account and not even mention the losing account. How would anyone know?

I am not here to prove what I make or do not make over the long haul but I am here to show how I like to scalp. Every trader that engages in my journal or watches my videos has to decide if they like how I trade or not and if it is entertaining to them or not. I CERTAINLY am not advising anyone to trade the way I do. But if they decide to try it that is entirely up to them but I strongly suggest that they try it only on a SIM and see if they can make it work or not. Only on a SIM and for fun only.

That said I often try to show either in a live video ALL trades for the session win or lose and if on a static chart I often show the chart of the entire session winning and losing trades.

    Happy trading.

I always said, the golden nuggets are between the lines and under the rugs.

Looking for secret source or recipes won't help you but anyone who knows how to use the basic principles of @volpri & @Laissez Faire as tools to build their own system will do well.

Sounds like a good start. Have you ever consider tweak for longer holds or overnight margin is your sweet spot?
