That's always debatable because America has it's own interpretation of the words. Laissez faire has typically been associated with liberals in Europe. Their opponents would be communists or fascists.
Here comes someone like Obama who says that ISIS is a jv team & islamic terrorism does not exist. How is him being in denial considered to be liberal anyway? Just b/c he thinks 'climate change' is real that makes him a liberal? Or is it up to liberals themselves to define what social issues fit liberal agenda and what do not? Let's say Trump is not liberal in your view b/c he does not agree with you. 'Climate change' aside, who is liberal then? And who is not?
Pretty simple if you apply some critical thinking. 50 years ago marriage was only between a man and a woman. Today some people are testing the idea that marriage can be between a man and a man. Those people are liberals. The people who still believe that marriage can be only between a man and woman (like it was 50 years ago) are conservative. Before you go on some rant about media bias or family values, I'm not making a judgment about who's right.
No, the fact that he respects the facts and research makes him a liberal. Where did Obama say Islamic terrorism doesn't exist? Show me the proof? It's not that Trump doesn't agree with me, it's that he doesn't read or investigate the subject but just comes up with nonsense, even though people who HAVE done the work say otherwise. If vast majority of researchers agree that CFCs damage the environment and here I come and say, with no evidence that "Chinese created CFCs to hurt the American economy", that's not an opinion but just ignorance as I have presented no evidence. Although this is all BS and he knows it as well, his tactics work great on sheep. My opinion also coincides with the dictionary definition of conservative more or less. American conservatives went economically liberal some time ago but as @newwurldmn said, this wasn't always the case and is really an aberration.
That does not answer it. What ideas are considered liberal and what are not? Are communists liberals? Are Syrian rebels liberals? Are Iraqi rebels liberal? Are black lives matter liberal? Are white lives matter liberal? Are cops liberal? What political groups are liberal and what are not? Can you name them?
What is ISIS? what's Al-Quada? How did he define their threat? Didn't he say that ISIS is jv team? http://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2016/09/29/president-obama-town-hall-radical-islam-sot.cnn
Liberals & liberal media. I hope their pragmatism trumps their hatred of D Trump not to see him as a threat to Silicon Valley & legal(!) immigration of highly skilled workers.
Maybe if his advisors tone down their rhetoric or if they break their campaign promises the liberal media will end its conspiracy against trump. It's so unfair!
In case you didn't get it, the Trump's policies are directed against illegal(!) immigration coming mostly from Mexico. No need to exaggerate this for political ends and present Mr Trump as a threat to highly skilled immigrants of Silicon Valley. Since we all know liberals are against any Mr Trump's plan to fight illegal(!) immigration, their expressed through media concerns about skilled immigrants legally in the country seem to be overdone & exclusively for political ends. At the same time I doubt Mr Trump is going to slow down his efforts to fight illegal(!) immigration, whether the liberals like it or not. So these are rather illegal immigrants who need to be concerned.
