I use facebook and I use there advertising tools. Most people have no clue how far it goes in term of no privacy at all. Facebook goes to far in collecting data. I think any service that is free goes to far in collecting data. The problem that right know has to end is a matter of choices you have with your personal data. If you go on a website that has a facebook like button, Facebook rigister your browser habit even if you do not have an account. That is one of many breaches of privacy. One somebody finds out and shout: You can not do that! Facebook do a mea culpa and continou with the things you do not know. And it is not only facebook. It is all companys that are trying to sell trough personal brand offers. What is the real problem? Let's say you are allergic or you are a target because you have mony or power somehow. Any one with a litlle background in datamining, is your potential enemy. A lack of privacy costs lives. That is way the people must have a clear and total control what is shared.

The press coverage may contribute to a slow decline for Facebook.

That article came out before the data news. But the data sharing will likely cause more people to abandon FB. The problem is that people might go to some other platform also owned by FB. Glad I closed my FB account a long time ago. For me, it was an easy decision because I have very few friends. And the ones that I do have are all ugly so I don't want to see their faces.

Facebook has 2.2 BILLION users, and still growing in many markets. A couple million kids moving to Instagram, which they also own, isn't going to put a dent in their business model.

Wilburdude.....don't worry you are not enough of a threat to the Man to have such conspir theories. But, I do think it is kinda ironic that FB, is now considered the Man !

I think you do not get it. If you are user or not, they collect your data if you surf on a website with a Facebook like button or share button. Even if you have no profile. They call it shadow accounts. Your habit of going from webpage to webpage, how long you stay, what you look at daily, where you are located, your ip adres, your destinations for travel, categories of stuff you look at, if you buy online, and so much more... even without having a Facebook account. Called it forcing without your knowledge and consent.
