If people ever read the terms of service on most websites and had any self-respect, they would not continue to use that website or its services. Excuse me for a moment while I check traffic on Google Maps!
Let's not forget that the intelligence agencies use FB to collect detailed info on people, these agencies can't believe just how easy it has become thanks to FB and Google which are in bed with them.
Haaaaaaaaaa No one and I mean no one reads those long long long long long terms of service....and if they did they read the first few sentences skip down to the bottom and click accept....there is no way around it. When you set up a simple account to pay your bill or want to post on a forum you have to agree to the terms and conditions that we all know no one reads. They make it all confusing and long so you just skip through it and accept what ever the lawyers put together.
Exactly and every single day people put more and more and more and more info out there....I always find it amusing when someone geotags themselves in a location while away on vacation or at a restaurant. Idiots. The amount of information individuals provide to these social networks is mind boggling. It's never going to end. This is the world we live in now. Where people post everything and anything just to get a fu$king like !!!
I have read several terms of service from social media sites, certain data vendors, and employment contracts. As a result, other than Elitetrader, I have no social media accounts, I have chosen to not do business with certain data vendors, and have either not accepted some employment contracts or have sucessfully modified them. In certain professions, part of the hiring process might include a ridiculous contract to test your diligence, reading comprehension, assertiveness, and negotiation skills. Although exceptionally outrageous terms may be unenforceable in the courts, why would a freedom loving individual want to do business with an organization that wants to administratively impinge on their rights?
From AOLs original inception at the dawn of the world wide web, there appeared to be a strong intelligence community connection. If I recall correctly, their original headquarters was in Herndon, VA. Interestingly Herndon, Va has been a source of regular pings to my computers. NSA, maybe? Within hours of performing a port scan of the Herndon, VA ping source, my graphics card died. That cooled my investigatory jets!
Isn't there a saying? Something along the lines of "if you are using a product for free, it's likely that you, the user, are actually the product".
Old school CIA/FBI/NSA systems for collecting data were completely replaced with Facebook/Google/Dropbox. The Stasi (East Germany post WW2) could have only dreamed about having such a massive surveillance state. Here you go:
No news had to tell me this. This has been going on for years pre Facebook. The difference is the amount of info users divulge, the amount people Facebook has as users and amount of time spent on FB. That’s golden info papa.
