Yea. You can't just go to doing whatever. Even people that were not ex-athletes show that! But, you gained the weight cuz you killed your metabolism by starving yourself. So.. if let's say your metabolism was at a base of 2500 calories (for simple numbers) and now you starved yourself for 4 months and your metabolism is now at 1500 calories. Well... when you start eating 2500 calories again .. the 1000 extra is extra and will be stored until your metabolism takes off again and readjusts.. That's not intermittent fasting!
Probably...But as i gained 50 pounds, buy start eating normally again i feel i can drop it in few months just as easily, just exercising and cutting meals a bit.No big deal.
Ok cool. I don't think you've really looked at intermittent fasting though. With IF you can eat all your meals. The idea is that there is an anabolic state (when eating) and a catabolic state - when not eating. So.. you eat all your calories in a shorter window which boosts your metabolism.. feeds your muscles, etc. Then during the longer period (sleep included ), your body starts burning fat because you had enough protein to not have to break into muscle.. cuz your fast wasn't to that point
'So.. you eat all your calories in a shorter window' What does that mean? You get up in the morning and eat all 3 meals at once, and then you don`t eat until your bed time?
good question! It's usually an 8 hour or so.. window of eating. Some also could argue that you might want to eat most carbs in the earlier part so that you are more carb depleted by the end. But, it's important to eat.. and eat good food!
Lately I got interested in IF. Not for weight loss but for health reasons. Since I am not particulary hungry in the morning, pushing the first meal out by a few hours and doing it after 11 am, makes an easy 16 hours intermittent fast. As it turns out, breakfast is the LESS important meal of the day! I will probably do it 3 times a week. Lots of health benefits and if I lose a few pounds, even better. I love Dr. Berg:
I do IF. Have been for maybe a year? It just suits me since i don't feel hungry when i wake up so i have breakfast (brunch?) at about 10.30/11am, lunch at around 3pm and dinner after 6pm. It's just a lifestyle choice imo...I don't believe there is any benefit in terms of losing fat quicker or whatever than if you ate the same calories spread out more over the day/had an early breakfast.
I’ve been TRF for about 9 months now with no discernible change in weight. Certainly not batting 1000 but about 90% of the days I’m eating from 1 or 2pm to about 8 or 9pm. Having a very difficult time cutting out my night time snacking post dinner. I think my body is saying - you won’t be eating for a while so get as much food in you now as you can. Funny thing is I feel better. I’m super strong in the gym (I lift and run at the very end of my fast). My clothes feel and look better and looser. But the scale remains within a few pounds. I also feel great after my workout (at 16 hour fast mark) and not really that hungry. My biggest issue is late night eating. Think I need to make some new changes and try TRF between 8am-2pm. Not sure how I can make it from 2pm on without eating but. Any thoughts?
This is where the body fat issue comes into the picture. It is entirely possible your fat changed into muscle thus your weight hasn't changed but your body components ratio and composure did. Edit: Do you have before and after pics (you don't have to post them) to compare and see if this is the case?
