For those interested... From the NYSE web site: "NYSE Direct+ offers rapid, automatic execution of limit orders up to 1099 shares." It is a slower than an ECN (2-3 second fills versus 0.2 second fills) but it is still automatic-execution. The specialist CANNOT stop Direct+ orders when there is posted size available, except in very infrequent instances when a large print is pending or the stock is halted.
