Exchange/ECN fees added into IB bundled commission?

  1. This is true. There is no breakdown. Hard to believe.

Since this thread made me nervous...
I compared my December 1st daily statement versus January 3rd.

    95% NYSE and 5% AMEX

    December 1, 2006.
    105,500 shares traded, $432.88 commission

    January 3, 2007.
    109,600 shares traded, $460.74 commission

    NO DIFFERENCE... REPEAT NO DIFFERENCE

    The way it works...
You pay $0.0035/share + fees until you hit 300,000 shares for the month...
And then it drops to $0.0020 + fees.

So around the 4th trading day of the month...
My fees go down by about 35-40%...
And trading 100K shares goes from $415.00 to around $265.00

  2. I agree that IB should break down unbundled commissions.

I think that they would have done this, if they had thought things through. I think that instead of thinking things through, they moved on to the next set of new features. This is an example of one of the strategic mistakes being made by IB. I think that IB needs to do fewer things, to think them through better, and to execute them better and with greater quality and reliability. Less is more. Less features. More reliability. Less features, in total, would mean more features that work exactly the way they are supposed to work.

  3. Just took a look at the statement of one of my accounts, some of my AMEX trades got charged ridiculously high commish. For example this trade costed me $158! What the @#%!*#!!!!

    GBN 2007-01-05, 09:33:55 AMEX -3,800 1.7400 6,612.00 -64.27 0.00
    GBN 2007-01-05, 09:33:55 AMEX -5,700 1.7400 9,918.00 -94.31 0.00

IB, please break down the commission charge!

Such an extreme overcharge appears to be different than merely tacking on ECN fees to the 0.2%.

This happened to me once last year and I emailed IB and it turned out to be a software error. I would call and complain.
