Excel 2007 crashes with DDE

  1. EXACTLY... I tried the RTD too... and it was slower... I quit it in frustration...

I am Pulling 500 symbols for Last, Volume and Change... No Bid or Ask

I tried eSig DDE... killed my cpu

I tried DTN RTD/DDE... bad trades reports from DTN all over the place it was a mess...

Marketfeed has the best i have found in 3 years of looking... Hardly uses any CPU... No bad trades... AT All... none... and very reasonable price...

  2. Would have to agree with you there BUT as always there's a catch with these tricky vendors and in the case of eSignal, it's their limits on the # of symbols you monitor. You end up paying them a fortune.

Just to clarify, dde links in my Excel 2007 files DO work. When I open the sheet, the Security Warning at the top gives the option to enable the links. I do this, and the sheet updates with data just fine. I can close and re-open the sheet and it works again. However on the second or third time opening the sheet, when enabling the content, excel crashes. If I re-open it again, it keeps crashing. The only way to get it to work again is to reboot the machine.

  4. Have you tried the worksheet without excel asking you to update the links? In other words setting the open macro command to automatically open/get quotes when opening workbook without asking?

That's how I have mine set.

  5. Exactly - If you only want DDE and sign up with esignal (month by month) its $125 dollars for 200 symbols - if you want more you pay more... $50 for 500 symbols ($175 a month) and for 1000 symbols ($225 dollars a month) if my math is correct...

with MarketFeed you pay initial base price of $23 month for 300 symbols... each extra 200 symbols is only $15 extra a month... in a better written program...

A smart trader would NOT take the esignal trade and would not play around with software just out of beta...

  6. Agree with all the DDE complaints... it's 20 year old technology.

    Thanks for the RTD experiences...
It's so typical of MSFT to foist slow bloatware on the world.

I'm looking at Reuters APIs right now...
They have a wide range of implementations...
    DDE, RTD, COM ActiveX, etc:

  7. Hi QuantPlus,

just a touch off post but i have already contributed a little to this thread...

My partner and i are setting up to do ATR Vol Correlated Basket Spreads...

Basket A Long versus Basket B short... 15 to 25 stocks in each basket...

Enter all into the market at the same time (LightSpeed or Hydra platform) at extreme tick moves using NYSE Tick in general or the two basket's ticks compared to each other in NeoTicker where you can create your own custom Tick indicators yourself...

Same stocks in an index and sector against each other like you mentioned it would be wise to do - Like Gold Stocks against each other or against Gold market itself... although you also recommend leaning toward stocks that have lower levels of liquidity than the big names... to catch a higher potential of inefficiency...

So my question is: How do we find as many basket potentials as possible... is there a list somewhere above and beyond using the SP index sector stocks against each other... we want to monitor - in excel - about 60 or more opposing baskets with alarms...

any suggestions... pointers... criticisms... inspirations... cogitations... anticipations...condemnations... considerations...

    thanks...

  8. I've taken a look at this product as well, since 1992 I have paid eSignal thousands of dollars excluding exchange fees, I use to shell out $500 per month in the early 90's.

I have stuck with it mainly cause I am so used to looking at and manipulating charts in eSig, does MF support charts/analytics as well?

I am seeking a better way of running my spreadsheets, I send orders, monitor positions from a Excel 2002 app.

  9. The product i mentioned from MarketFeed... Their Marketlink product is only a DDE feed to Excel spreadsheeets... its only raw data that pours into your excel spreadsheet...

They have a charting app but i do not use it - I only use them for this DDE feed that pours into Excel... No Chart app... just this...

I use DTN and NeoTicker for my charting app and stock, futures, etc.... feed...

hope i am clear about what i was posting...
