Excel 2007 crashes with DDE

I'm running Excel 2007 on a new windows Vista Ultimate os (32 bit). I have a spreadsheet that pulls dde data from esignal. When I open the sheet and update the links, it works fine. But after I've closed it and try to re-open it, it crashes when I try to update the links. Seems I can only get 2 or 3 dde updates (same sheet, or a different one) before it no longer works. A system re-boot is the only way to get it to work again.

It's not an esignal problem, because the same thing happens with dde links to other platforms as well.

    Anyone else experience this?

  2. Maybe try an older version of excel? I like office (excel)2000 because it's stable and I can install it on as many pc's as I want.

But if that doesn't solve the issue then maybe try it on another pc with XP?

  3. I also run Excel 2000 on multiple boxes...
    For reasons above.

Excel DDE issues are very tricky to resolve...
Often resulting in workarounds as suggested above.

    Use the Windows Task Manager...
    (Hit Control/Alt/Delete keys)...
And make sure you have only one instance of Excel running.

    Hey Lescor,

Just in case it helps, we're about to go gold with a new DDE product that uses VB to grab history data as well. You can download eSignal's Qlink product here.

    Thanks.

  5. Hi Lescor,

I gave up on eSig DDE way back when... now using, and very happy with, MarketFeeds DDE product...

    http://www.marketfeed.com/mlink.htm

I am pulling 500 symbols, low CPU usage and only costs $38 a month...

Tried: eSig, DTN, MetaStock... etc... No Joy...

Yo, eSig, Having users try out new products that just come out of Beta is not the best use of one's time... but thanks... let's us know in about 8 months if its as perfect as you think it is now...

    What about OpenOffice?
Could it be a viable solution or not?

I struggled with VB code for a long time rrying to get a spreadsheet to load lots of data on lots of symbols, I hope you guys get it right because it turns Excel into a powerful screening tool if one can do that...

I'll give that a try, but it would be nice to see you support RTD, since DDE is old outdated technology now. RTD is where it's at, why no plans to implement it?

  9. i has problems with excel 2002...ms told me to update my software...i boughta new system and installed vista ultimate 64 bit and excel 2007 and it works great...i use about 2000 dde kinks...try your security settings...

i tried using rtd and it turned out to be much slower than dde...go figure
