Why would she lie like that?

Lee like what. The facts in this situation are well-documented and proven.

She is demanding that the university take corrective actions for their failures which violated the law and NCAA regulations.

As I keep stating..that's an issue with the NCAA but they are dicks about social issues involving stuff like that...usually a several years court battle. She'll have graduated from college by then.

Best she can do is get back on the team without scholarship and that then only becomes a school issue without getting the NCAA involved.

Then again, if the same coach is coaching the team and some of the players are still on the team that had an issue with her even if there's other players on the team that shares her opinions...

That's not a team you want to be playing for. That's a team you transfer away from.
    • Seriously, have you ever tried playing for a team that has a coach that does not like you, does not want you there, pushed you to the point that you want to quit ?
Most athletes in situations like that will transfer to a college in the same conference just for the purpose to compete against that coach again (several times) each year...hoping to make it an issue that the coach can't do anything about it because she's now at another university.

If there's a new coach for the Hokies...that's another story...

You got a better source than the OP which doesn't say anything about the "documentation" you speak of?

Go do a google search and read about the case.
The posted source is factual in regards to the information.

Actually IMO she wants to hold the school responsible in this situation. She is not asking for money. She is demanding they follow the law and NCAA regulations. The entire suit may be about proving this point.

IMO the school needs to ask the women's soccer coach to move on -- this incident is of questionable judgement is just one of many. What do you want with a coach known as Charles “Chugger” Adair.

The 13 page suit can be found in this article.

Rarely will a school fire a coach for something like this...

UNLESS there's an uproar within the student body, alumni and university community or pressure for other schools AD within the conferences...it then becomes a National issue.

If she doesn't have any of the above...that coach will remain especially if its a coach that brings in the top recruits to keep the school competitive in the sport. A sad reality.

I have heard of a few coaches being discipline in situations like that but never fired.

If Hening was on the National Soccer Team...she can get a ton of attention on this issue...giving the coach or the school a lot of bad publicity. Yet, that would then signal to her National teammates that she's not a team player with them on social issues.
    • She's in a losing battle here especially considering she could have transfer to protect herself and still be doing everything she's doing right now with the lawsuit against UVA plus she'll be playing soccer for another school.
That school gets so many top recruits...her athletic talents will soon be quickly forgotten.

  8. playing the other side, she was not thrown off the team for not kneeling, her scholarship was not revoked for not kneeling. She quit the team because the coach was being an asshole to her about it which forced her to leave the team. Not sure what a court can do when someone voluntarily quits a team except to provide damages if she can document her treatment by the coach, her complaint to the AD going unheeded, and left with no other recourse because the coach would bench her when she was the leading player the previous 2 seasons. All a judge can do is show the coach was abusive and the university did nothing and were in violation of NCAA regulations. Courts don't force people back into jobs or teams.

THat is why the lawsuit smells fishy because asking a court to educate the university on law and get her back on the team she quit on is really weird...

Well, I think we can agree her soccer career is over. At this point she is trying to make the university mend its ways and not do this again in the future.
