Is there any scientific proof that homo sapiens were ever not on earth?

I am pretty sure we don't have any fossil evidence or anyhting but is there definitive proof that we were not here at any time?

The reason I ask is what if there was more of a process of extinction going on than an evolutionary process?

We are down species all the time but rarely do we find new species.
