Exxon Mobil under investigation in NY over climate change The New York attorney general has begun a sweeping investigation ofExxon Mobil to determine whether the company lied to the public about the risks of climate change or to investors about how those risks might hurt the oil business. According to people with knowledge of the investigation, Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman issued a subpoena Wednesday evening to Exxon Mobil, demanding extensive financial records, emails and other documents. The focus includes the company's activities dating to the late 1970s, including a period of at least a decade when Exxon Mobil funded groups that sought to undermine climate science. This is going to blow up in the face of the NY attorney general if he pursues it. First of all Exxon is not based in New York - he is clearly overstepping his boundaries. Secondly if this goes to court it will become the first trial in the U.S. that will be built around the topic of if AGW exists. And the attorney general will lose this trial and it will set a legal precedent of "climate change" policy. Exxon has much deeper pockets than the AG. The AG appears to be doing this as a political stunt to make headlines; it is going to burn him badly.
