Volume agreed. Ranges, I just checked back to 2004 and the ranges do not seem to be anything out of the normal.

I'd much prefer daily ranges of the like we saw during September, October 2011. Feb 2011 saw one day of 89 ticks range with the larger number being sub 50, with somewhere in the order of 250k more contracts a day trading.

I suppose it depends what your definition of a non dogdirt range and volume is.

Has anyone thought that maybe, just maybe the reason for the lack of volatility and in turn volume in the Bunds over the last 5-6 months has something to do with the fact that they're almost perfectly priced re the current fundamentals AND the expected future fundamentals.

    Same with Treasuries.

Looks to me like the govt. long end is just another casualty of ZIRP.

But don't worry everyone because I've got a forecast for you all that's 100% GUARANTEED! The volatilty AND volume will one day come back to this sector, just let time play itself out.

Now, a simple lesson for some of you. One of the really good traders on the old LIFFE floor used to switch pits all the time. Perhaps a week or more in the Bunds, then a day or two in FTSE before heading into the BTP for the rollover.

Guess what he was doing? GOING WHERE THE ACTION WAS. His job was to make money and he'd obvioulsy worked out that volatility = money :)

As screen traders this is far easier to do, so why not stop whining about Bunds (I myself trade them and love the market but I haven't done a trade in 2 weeks) and look for ACTION in other markets before heading back into your market of choice (say Bunds) when they start to heat up again.

2004? I am not talking about 2004, no idea where you plucked that from.My point is within the last few years both the volume and the ranges have been steadily decreasing. This doesnt bode well for the future the way things are going at all.

How can you not agree that the EUREX Fixed income is steadily drying up/turning to total dogdirt.I have backtested the data for the last 100 trading days, and as of the 100, 76 have been inside range days-Surely you cannot say that is not dogdirt?

I remember when I also visited the floor whilst doing my A-levels and met Kyte.Surprised me how down to earth he was and generally a quiet man.I saw him trading once ( forgotten what pit it was ) he seemed to try and hold the positions he had for what was considered a long time for a local, obviously appeared to know what he was doing, and has done well out of it.However, he did appear to be a dogdirt scalper.

What do you expect people on the floor to do?

No I am not at all, many guys used to scalp well.Kyte was not one of them- he had trades on for a much longer time frame than the avearge scalper did.

Kyte and many other of the guys who owned/own the prop shops in the city have made most of there money from the broking side- not actual trading.I know of at least 4 who have become very rich owning Trading arcades ( By marking up the cost of the "desk fee" and Round Trip costs).3 of which were dogdirt traders, and struggled to break even.
