Not even 400k Contracts have traded by 2pm London time , in FGBL.

Is this because most intraday traders are now position trading, or that the fact alot of guys have left the direct market and are just intraday trading using the spread betting route, hence alot of volume has dropped off?

From my experience, spread trading pumps up contract traded volume - those are size traders. IMHO, scalping has just gotten to be very, very difficult with all the turbulence in the micro-structure of the markets. I know for a fact that lots of Eurex products get spread or arbed against many different instruments outside of the Eurex product suite. For example, I have clients that spread Bunds against Gilts, longer duration Euribor strips packs and bundles, OTC Swaps, and European cash debt ( and there are others as well ).

The Bund's statistical correlation against the US Ten Year Note is really crappy, so I do believe that has negatively impacted the Bund's volume with that trade.

Agreed with the response. However I dont think locals can blame the HFT bunch, the market still moves and as such there is the same possibility to make money just on a different time frame , mainly intraday position trading as opposed to tick trading.Whilst I was viewing one of the major prop shops one trader kept shouting " This is dog shit", just because he went off side by 1 tick, and was blaming the algo's.

Exactly, 100 % accurate. The secret to dealing with choppy microstructure and order queue gaming in the market is to change your position holding and entry modeling approach. Markets always have and always will change. No mystery in that. Adapt or find another line of work.

  5. adapt or die - hahahahahaha.

yes ill just go and spend $10 billion to get a co located server and out cheat and out front run every other hft firm.

meanwhile in the real world hft firms are causing world wide volume collapse.

didnt see that one coming did they.

i wonder how the exchanges are adapting or dying.

    how about dying.

they have not got a clue what to do about it.

I'm pretty sure that exchanges get paid by trading fees, and they do not and probably should not care if those fees are generated by whining pussy locals dumb enough to scalp for a tic, or from RSJ.

We all know what Eurex's real problem is - they let the banks ( usually the ones that owned a piece of them ) blow out the locals and the market makers with CTD cornering and all kinds of nuclear gaming gambits designed to squeeze the weaker hands. That has all been thoroughly documented earlier in this thread. They fked themselves over enabling stupid behavior.

Another example of its why locals cannot blame the HFT brigade. The markets nowadays are so inter wound, there is no real direct correlation with any markets( Spreading/hedging etc.) One Local was continously selling bond futures when the Stocks were consistently making new highs, despite there being no correlation, for the last 5 weeks. However, he continued to adopt this theory, and yet again was moaning that its the Algo's that ruined the inverted Bond/Stocks relationship.

I just couldnt understand why he kept on using the stocks as a decision on his entry point, when he kept taking loser after loser by following the Equities.

For the greater portion of the morning the UST's had actually done more volume.

    Very unusual.
