Where are all these people that said Eurex was going to put the Chicago exchanges out of business?

Pretty desperate move. Eurex giving their product away. LOL. In the mean time seats in Chicago are in serious uptick mode. Eurex will never make it in the U.S.

Most media outlets were saying that as well as all the Chicago newspapers had huge articles about Eurex putting CBOT under.

I was one of the first on this board to call it. I got a lot of heat at the time but it's awfully quiet now. LOL.

I wouldn't ring the CBOT's death knell yet. The Treasury will not be enthused about a foreign exchange being the primary futures market for U.S. government debt. Also both Cantor and the major player owned BrokerTec (Goldman, JPM, ect.) have failed to attract institutional participation. The major source of liquidity in electronically traded financial futures is still from CBOT and CME members who's fees will most certainly be slashed to within striking distance of Eurex's thirty cents.

Someone knows something. Rather than collapsing in the last few months at the imminent threat of Eurex, CME stock has doubled and CBOT membership prices are on three year highs. Viva' Chicago!

Pabst, I took so much heat for that call. You would think I was proposing to end trading altogether. But I stood my ground and held my prediction. Of course all those people who were attacking me have disappeared, but what else is new, this is ET afterall.

  10. Maverick,

Great call! However, I wouldn't totally discount EurexUS. It's not enough time. But it's great that Chicago can adapt and change. These changes end up helping the endusers out(lower fees, etc.)

However, in the long run, EurexUS could still win or the cbot/cme could try to go all electronic. So who knows.. Too short of a time period. But every institutions that ever tried to stop the progress of technology and institutional/societal changes usually ended up being the dinosaur and extinct. Typewriter companies(SmithCorona) aren't really around anymore. Horse carriage. Telegraph. You get the idea...
