    Red or white?

    Not to get OT on this thread, but, very quickly, what you could do is download and install KeyTweak. (No affiliation and, besides, it's freeware.) Then simply re-assign any other, rarely used key, preferably near the bottom of your keyboard, to be the new spacebar. Say, the `~ key, if you also have that key immediately to the left of the spacebar on your laptop. See the screenshots for how easy it is. Now, you're back in business.

    Of course, you could also use one of many available shareware "keyboard macro" programs, which can pull off many other tricks. However, since all you really need is to be able to re-assign that one non-functional key, that solution would probably be overkill. Less is more.

    We now resume our regularly scheduled programming... :)
