EU new car registrations fall 12.3% in April

  1. MADRID (MarketWatch) -- New passenger-car registrations in Europe fell 12.3% in April on an annual basis, the 12th consecutive monthly decline, the European Automobile Manufacturing Association reported on Thursday. In Western Europe, new car registrations fell 11.6%, while Austria and Germany were the only countries to post growth, with respective gains of 12.8% and 19.4%. The biggest declines were in the U.K. and Spain, with respective falls of 24% and 45.6%. Four months into the year, new car registrations in Western Europe are down 15.1%. New car registrations in the new E.U. member states tumbled by 21.4% in April, and on the quarter, there was a contraction of 26.3%.
