I don't use chat, but I think Baron is saying that everyone you see in the list is in the chat room, doing the same thing you do, staring at no one chatting. Maybe, if you start talking, someone else will speak.
Or the watering hole... but I look at the main page, I see 5 participants.... and then there is no one there. I totally understand what you are saying.... but would it not be better if I looked at the home page and it said there were 5 active people and I went there and there were actually five people there? I understand that they will click off, but it would be cool if it was real-time.... if they are currently looking at the page.... show that..... if they aren't, have your main page reflect that too. Baron, you already know, I am clueless on tech.... so this is just a "man on the street observation". But I would love to use it. I'll chat with anybody about anything but in 3 months time, I have never went there once when there was anybody but me. I hope you figure it out. It would be awesome to talk live trading with other traders.
OK ...here's an idea from an idea type of guy...but it would take some backroom engineering I suspect..... what if you made an unobtrusive window that popped up and said ..... VZ just enetered the chatroom.... keyword here being "unobtrusive as you don't want to pollute the homepage. The people who want to chat will know where to look and will see it. Ooorr .....you could even make it an alert for those that want to subscribe to it...... like a PM. Just a thought.
I appreciate all the effort you've done Baron and how you keep Elite Trader classy without all the trolls from horrid sites. To those who can't recall how bad Yahoo Finance and AOL's Message Boards were go back and check them out. We take for granted all the good work plus your moderating to prevent boiler room or bucket shop jerks making a mess of Elite Trader. Has anyone seen the mess called "Stock Twits" with no relevant trading information, nothing but jerks promoting off topic twits. Elite is far superior and the community rocks! In the 1990s there was Silicon Valley Investor Message board and Yahoo plus who could forget access to Tokyo Joe. I remember Jonny Lebed's posts and people actually buying all the garbage stocks he promoted. Elite Trader has some real diamond posters and funny sarcastic goofballs but one thing I appreciate is we do not have to worry about Pump and Dump artist, gross profanity ad-hominem attacks for no reason. Thank you Baron, appreciate all the hard work you do to keep Elite Trader up with some of the most interesting topics containing real meat! What technology are you suppose to install, I think people want you to have a "Mind Reading" and a "Tomorrow's Hot Stock List" so they do not have to stay up all night researching. I never went to bed last night because I could not shut my brain down. When new traders think's their going to work from 9:30 to 4:00 EST is so cute. I know of Blow Up artists that were so lazy they wanted their motto was "I will gladly give you a stock idea Tuesday for one today"!. Those are the girls and guys that last for one or two blow-outs because they refuse to get their hands really dirty! Keep up the great work!
You are dead to me with your philosophical inquiry... First, a chat is as good as the people participating in it make them. Stop complaining and start chatting...Furthermore: 1. This is summer time, people actually go outside. 2. Markets are usually also boring during the summer. Just wait until the market drops 10%, there will be chat. 3. There is just so much thing to say about trading in general, so why do you expect the chat (or ET for that matter) to be super interesting after x months/years? Have I answered your dilemma of to chat or not to chat?
