IMHO, the reality probably is that esig's folks get paid every 2 weeks, so if the problems here get fixed or not doesnt really matter. Oh well. For most customers to go learn another system is a major pain in the @#$, and they wont do it. Sooner or later an easy to use competeing product will show up. But this comment from the esig guy spun my head around,"...That's a tremendous lag and one that's technically impossible from a system standpoint (i.e. we don't have buffers near large enough to hold a few seconds worth of ticks, let alone 60 seconds) so there must be another technical problem involved. ..." It's just the kind of comment short-sellers dream of. The guy has a tech problem and says we dont know what it is and its probably you. Reminds me of the banks who said, in the 90s, "...we know the real estate guys, they would never default on loans." Funny, how esig never offers to credit me back for problems - even the cable company does that!
well, unfortunately, the losses i have incurred as well as the opportunities missed using their products have justified making the move. the opportunity missed and losses are a drop in the ocean in the last 4 days compared to a monthly subscription. i know how pathetic it sounds when people blame their platforms on their performance, so im doing something about it! i only make 1-3 trades a day, mostly off 10m charts, so its not like i need accuracy to the nano-second like a scalper. tom - i agree what you say about learning a new platform isnt the best thing we could wish for, but at the end of the day, this business is about shoveling cash into our accounts. if our tools are stopping us from doing that then imo, its a no brainer. were in a bad trade here - looked good, but now its gone south. time to put the stop loss in and take it on the chin. dont get emotionally attached to this trade - just aint worth it. im going to try www.prorealtime.com loads of functionality, and peanuts. ive seen some good remarks made on these boards about them. they get their feed from gl trade - anyone know what they are like.
i dont think the pro real web site is much good - all the info you will need is under 'help' incase anyone has dificulty figuring out what they get.
Indeed! Apparently without any useless bells & whistles. Unfortunately the info on their website is a bit meager. Need price + technical data on their API. Can it run of linux? Going by their minimum hardware requirements, it's probably not based on Java hog. I also would like a firm commitment that they will keep it lean and top of the line. It seems that most quote distributors have a history of getting you into problems from the moment that they become too ambitious and start to add too many things beyond their means of running reliably. I've seen this happen several times. I hate to have to pull info out of vendors though. BTW, was the developer, Eric Scott Hunsader, not the one that also developed Quote.com's system before they screwed up 5-6 years ago? Their API used to be rather very good for those times. If I recall, it used to be M$ Activex based.
It has been confirmed that this bug will be fixed in the next version of eSignal (7.9.2), which will be due out within the next few months.
When i see the site i don't have much confidence in the product as it is at this moment. I always wait till i et a confirmation that the product is good before i even think of using the product. I have followed the same principles in regard with new software and upgrades. It saved me a lot of problems. I pay at this moment less than 1000 $ for my realtime feed. I'm client with the same dataprovider for over 10 years without ever having any serious problems. Why should i change? To make 500$ profit? And what about the reliability? If i miss 1 day of trading it costs me more than the yearly bill with my provider. So to me it sounds like a bad deal. It seems to me that it's better to put your energy in improving your trading instead of searching the web for cheaper providers. And it will make you more money than the cheaper bill for your feed.
I don't have reliability problems with esig. I trade HSI. It's only when I noticed esig lagging Sierra/IB that I started to be concerned. Sure there are not as many bells and whistles. And the price is not a concern. But it is not worth it to me to have any lag.
I trade ES and i constantly compare my esignal feed with my brokers feed. I never have any lagging; as a daytrader i would see lagging immediately because i watch my screen from opening till the close. Perhaps the problems occur only with certain items or with some areas where the internet connection is not functioning well. I would find it bizarre that some people or some items see lag and others not. If the lag would be caused by esignal i would suppose that everybody would have the same problem, but apparently that's not the case. As you said, the price probably is not a concern but rather the quality of the feed is important. That's why i'm careful about changing my dataprovider.
