I posted this last week...so far my NQ trading is going FAR FAR better than ES. It is less choppy and even with low volume days like today (only 250,000 CT's traded NQ and approx 1,000,000 ES) there was still over 60 points of range for NQ vs. 18 points on ES. Keep in mind 1 point ES equals 2.5 NQ. The range is just so much more workable on NQ. I have not done this break down for YM --------------------------------------------------- ok I find this very interesting.... I have broken down the ES vs NQ.... the results are pretty revealing. I chose to express it is $ instead of percentages cause it seems to make more sense. keeping in mind that 1 pt =$50 ES 1pt=$20 NQ these are daily averages For the ES Range 10 years 14.55pts $727 Range 12 mo 14.62pts $730 last 30 days 12.35pts $617 2017 range 12.93pts $646 For the NQ Range 10 yr 42.12pts $ 842 12 month range 42pts $ 843 last 30 days 50.10pts $ 1,001 2017 range 40.19pts $ 803 WOW! across the board NQ has more daily range by a long shot. Therefore it should be possibly easier to trade. The difference on last 30 days is HUGE, yes it is only 30 days. looking at the 10 yr number $727 ES vs $842 NQ...that is huge as well.
%% I would call it wilder-long story short.LOL But i like tek stocks, even though one can gain or lose more on them, more so with leverage LOL.
HMMM.... Wild? ok I can go with that. Although, I was at a Starbuks last year trading on my laptop, an elderly woman on the next table over asked what I was doing, when I explained she said "that seems pretty boring" to that I replied "it is when I'm doing it right"
From what I have seen in my short-term watching of the equities, NQ can chew you up and spit you out. It is brutal, like GC when GC goes into a tantrum. Just look at the past 10 trading days of NQ. Bloody mess it is. Get caught in the wrong direction a few times and you're mucked. But it is still exciting, because at least NQ offers you the opportunity to recover since it has been having such great trends! Catch the trend in the right direction and you can quickly gain back what you lost. Even at $5 per tick, NQ is scarier than ES. Starting next week, CME gets back the TF (it will have a different symbol, cannot recall what it will be at the moment)... Fun times.
%% LOL, JD; + i dont mean that[ wild] in a negative sense , wildlife management is a favorite of mine for years.
Agreed,,, Stops are an absolute must have with NQ. I do feel that I get more opportunity to make up for a stop out as well. And, my entry does not have to be dead on perfecto. NQ was the first Index Future I traded starting back in 2011. I was a big enough idiot to run with "mental" stops..... of course no big surprise, I blew up that account.
Here's something for you to do over the weekend...Check NQ's weekly charts, and see how much "down" there has been in one of the future cycles. Show me a period over 6 months (2 future contract cycles) where it was down from the beginning through to the end. The thing is biased long over the long-term, like the others.
