Erasing unneeded programs

Discussion in 'Trading Software' started by wilburbear, Dec 30, 2006.

  1. I try to erase all unneeded programs on a new dual-core HP machine with Windows XP. I'm a 20 year trader but a computer novice. The warning that the program I'm about to erase could be hooked up to something important is a little scary, so I stop. I once found a section of XP that showed infrequently used programs before deletion, but can't find my way back there. Anybody know where this was, or how to safely delete?

*Sometimes* it's not safe to delete unused programs, as it also comprmises something you did not intend. And unfortunately, you won't know in advace whether it's safe.

Best you can do is to keep unused programs from starting through "services" and "msconfig". Having extra programs is like having extra books in the library you don't read... they just take up space.

When you reinstall XP you'll want to avoid installing extra programs, if possible.
