They already showed that these mass animal deaths happen all the time, they just never got media coverage like this before. They said that every few days this happens somewhere in the world, and I have read a story that dated back to 1896 of this happening. Its likely happened throughout all time.
Volcanic activity under the earth's surface has been going on for past 100 or 200 or thousands of years which releases many gases. Volcanic activity under the sea/ocean is something non-stop. Nobody knows what goes on under the sea.
