Ensign: Comments Please...

  1. I see people talking about refreshing their vol charts on ensign.
I just wondered how they did that.

  2. Yes, I agree that neoticker can be frustrating for some users.

I was fortunate to have installation and troubleshooting procedures from a very knowledgeable neoticker user.

For example, I was aware of the delete cache procedure that fixed your issue.

Technical support is good but certainly not the kind where you get instant response. On the other hand I have gotten excellent response on bug reports and some enhancement requests. Try getting that from the other software vendors.

I'll send you a pm for us to connect outside this forum. Neoticker is a very important tool in my trading and I'm always interested in sharing info with other traders.

  4. It doesn't scan stocks as advertised. It's data handling doesn't work if you have more then a few active symbols.

  5. I have not worked with the scan feature. Was it the pattern recognition scanner or some other function that did not work?

For me, no problems with the number of active symbols. I have a dedicated 6 monitor setup for neoticker with numerous open chart windows and active quote lists. I use esignal for my primary data feed.

What data feed were you using during your tests?

  6. I went over to that thread you posted. That is Kenneth's standard reponse that he can't reproduce the problem.

I daytrade and I need a stock scanner and Tradestation has a radarscreen product that can scan 1000 stocks without bogging down. I only scan around 400 though at a time though.

Neoticker couldn't to it even though it claims it could and Kenneth always claimed he didn't have any problems at his end.

All my charts contantly had data gaps in them. It got to where I couldn't trust anything with it.

  7. Scan feature doesn't work. When I say scan I mean put 500 symbols in a quote list and put some formulas to alert or sort by and see what happens.

I used quote.com and esignal both. I believe quote.com worked best because esignal had a symbol limit at one time. I know that they are one company now so that is not an issue. I have not tried neoticker since 2002 or so.

Tradestation is just less hassle. You can program about anything you can imagine and you never have data handling problems.

I have not looked at new software in a few years but I understand ETrade Professional is pretty good too.

I think its great that you like Neoticker. Everyone has different styles but for my style I didn't have the time to deal with data handling issues and I needed to be able to scan the market for a setup that I use. Maybe me stuffing so many symbols in quote lists causes the data gap problem too.

  8. I tried that one twice. It has been tweaked so many times to try to be all things to all people that I found it to be a mess too. But this was years ago.

That's the problem with these software vendors. Rather then make 100% of what 90% of the people want rock solid they try to accommodate the 10% of the people who are pushing the envelope. What ends up is a problematic product due to the steep learning curve and the product's idiosyncrasies.
