End of the world.....

  1. 2000-MAY: Ronald O'Brien had prophesized that a dark cross would be suspended in the stratosphere between JAN-19 and JAN-31. His next prophecy was for Garabandal, Spain: all those present would be cured of infirmities and disabilities. Finally, after April, Armageddon will come. Four billion humans will die, unless the world turns to God and follows true Roman Catholicism.
2000-SPRING: According to the Weekly World News for 1999-DEC-14, long lost "Bethlehem Prophecies" predicted that massive solar flares would scorch the sky. They were to be stronger than any previously observed. As many as a billion people would have been permanently blinded. There were many solar flares; there always are at this stage in the solar flare cycle. None of record-breaking strength.
2000-MAY-5: The book "5/5/2000 - Ice, the Ultimate Disaster," described how the first alignment of Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn in 6,000 years would cause total devastation. Ice buildup at the south pole would upset the world's axis, sending trillions of tons of ice and water sweeping over the planet. The cover illustration shows an Egyptian pyramid surrounded by ice and lightning. Actually, the planets were not really lined up. They will merely appear to be located within a 19.5 degree sector of the sky, as viewed from the earth. A similar alignment happened on 1962-FEB-5 when the planets were in an even tighter configuration: 18.8 degrees. It will occur again on 2040-SEP-8 when the planets align to within 8.3 degrees. The only effect that scientists believed would happen would be an average increase in the ocean tides by 0.04 millimeter -- an immeasurably small amount.
2000-MAY-17: Rebecca Harrison -- apparently a woman -- a.k.a. St. John -- a man --predicted that Jesus would return on this date. Three years later, on 2003-JUN, Armageddon will take place.
2000-MAY-31: The Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in front of Taurus occurred on this date. Some consider this to be the return of the Star of Bethlehem, like in 7.B.C. Some people expected a supernatural event comparable to the birth of Jesus. None happened.
2000-JUN-11: Marilyn Agee predicts at the Rapture will occur on this date. Later she postponed the date to JUN-20, JUL-9, and AUG-20. When the rapture did not happen on any of these dates, she apparently gave up.
2000-Summer: According to Weekly World News for 1999-APR-27, Mother Seaton (Elizabeth Ann Seaton) predicted in the early 19th century that Washington DC will be bathed in an evil stench which comes from the bowels of Hell. The political leaders who stay behind in the city will be driven mad. [It is very tempting to comment on this]
2000-JUL: According to Weekly World News for 1999-APR-27, a scroll written by the great Chinese philosopher Confucius predicts that a massive solar flare will erupt and bathe the earth with enormous amounts of energy. This will burn and blind millions of people, worldwide.
2000-JUL: Based on the precictions of Gordon Scallion, Nostradamus, and Mother Shipton, Melody Mehta predicted that the moon Phobos will have been displaced from its orbit around Mars by a passing comet and will strike Earth.
2000-JUL-7: On the basis of some Bible verses, Nostradamus and evidence related to "the grays" (a species of Extra-terrestrials often discussed by UFO groups) Robert Hallman predicts the rapture on this date. He describes "the grays" as "Satan's soldiers."
2000-AUG-20: Based on the book of Daniel, "Ephraim" predicted that the Battle of Armageddon would begin on this date. He later postponed it to SEP-30. Still no luck.
2000-SEP-6: Counting seven years forward from 1993-SEP-13, the date of the peace accord between Israel and Palestine, Daniel Adam Millar predicted that the Antichrist will declare himself God and start the battle of Armageddon.
2000-SEP-16: Phil Stone believes that the biblical story of the Exodus will be replayed on a world-wide basis for four days, starting on this date. There will be a massive increase in the level of the oceans, causing catastrophic loss of life.
2000-SEP-21: Dan Millar, mentioned above, estimates this date as that of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Four events will happen on that day, a Thursday. The sidereal day is reset. It is also the Jewish New Year, using the Canaanite calendar that was in use within ancient Israel prior to the Babylonian Captivity. It is the time of the Jewish "Feast of Jubilees" according to a message given by the Virgin Mary to Father Stefan Gobbi. This feast occurs only once every fifty years. This date is also the Autumn Equinox.
2000-SEP: Efraim Genootshap claims to be the reincarnation of the biblical prophet Elija. He believes that God has given him the responsibility of gathering the lost twelve tribes of Israel from among western-European nations, in preparation for the Tribulation period. He leads the Efriam Society, a Netherlands based Christian group. They predicted that the rapture would occur this month.
2000-SEP/OCT: Michael Rood predicted that the nations of Gog and Magog, as described in the Bible, will attack Israel sometime between the end of September and the OCT-28.
2000-OCT-14: Yisrayl Hawkins, the leader of the House of Yahweh taught that the Israeli Peace Accord of 1993-OCT-13 marked the start of the 7 year period of tribulation. This will time the second coming of Jesus on 2000-OCT-14.
2000-OCT-18: The Honorable Reverend Caleb Solar, with tongue firmly in cheek, was convinced that on this date [to be known as Quellish (Let it Come!)] a cosmic flood known as "El Agua" will drown all but a chosen few - namely the followers of Caleb Solar.
2000-OCT: Jim Searcy, pastor of the Cumberland Presbyterian church predicted the end of the world during this month. He also has concluded that Prince Charles is the Antichrist.
2000-OCT-1: Byron Weeks predicted that all Americans would have been issued a National ID card by this date. Martial law would be proclaimed before the end of October. The new world government would have started to round up separatists and patriots. The U.S. would be plunged into nuclear war and be destroyed.
2000-NOV: According to Weekly World News for 1999-APR-27, Nostradamus predicted that a giant asteroid would hit the earth late this month. This would start fires that will burn up the entire planet.
2000-late: The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a Mormon polygamist splinter group had allegedly predicted the end of the world in a few days or months after mid-2000-SEP. Hundreds of members pulled their children out of the public schools and are home schooling them, perhaps in anticipation of the apocalypse. Former members have reported that church leaders preached that the towns along the Utah-Arizona border will be lifted into the sky. The splinter group was founded in 1929 and has been excommunicated from the Salt Lake City-based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because of their practice of polygamy. 3
2000-DEC (late): The Bible talks about heavenly signs that will precede the end of the world. Some prophesized that the eclipse of the sun on 2000-DEC-25 was one of these signs, and that the end of the world would follow shortly after. This prophecy was reinforced by a massive solar flare in late December, which produced remarkable displays of the Northern Lights about Christmas time. Also, a small asteroid (about the size of a football field) was scheduled to pass by the earth some 800,000 km (500,000 miles) away. This is only about twice the distance from the earth to the moon. Finally, the full moon of 2001-JAN-09 will be the brightest since 1912.
2000-DEC-25: According to the 1997-JUN-24 issue of Sun Magazine Pope John XXIII predicted in 1962 that Christ would appear in the sky over New York City. Jesus was expected to announce the creation of a 1000-year paradise.

  2. Failed predictions:
2001-JAN-31: Sun Magazine reported in its 1997-OCT-14 issue that Noah's Ark had been discovered intact in undamaged form on a slope near Mount Ararat in Turkey. Inside were a group of 6 copper-gold-silver scrolls, each 12" square. Scroll 2 reveals that the sun would superheat the earth, melting both polar ice caps, and creating a world-wide flood. Scroll 3 revealed that Doomsday is set for 2001-JAN-31. Good people who repent of their sins will be saved; cruel tyrants will be cast into the burning fires of Hell.
2001-APR-7: Philip B. Brown predicted that the Great Tribulation would start on 2001-APR-7. The two witnesses described in Revelation were supposed to start prophesizing Christ's return. The start of his millennial reign would be delayed until 2008-APR-6. 1
2001-APR-16: Bill Singleton predicted that the Rapture would occur on Easter weekend
2001-MAY-28 Marilyn Agee predicted the start of the Tribulation, the beginning of the ministry of the two end-time witnesses mentioned in Revelation, and the appearance of the Antichrist. The Rapture would have occurred before this date.
2001-JUL-7: According to the Weekly world News for 2001-FEB-13, Professor Philippe Garoche, head of a team studying a newly unearthed scroll in Athens, Greece, predicted that Jesus Christ will return to Earth on this day. He was to have appeared simultaneously to people all over the world at 7:07 AM, presumably Jerusalem time.
2001-NOV-21: Efraim Genootshap claims to be the reincarnation of the biblical prophet Elija. He believes that God has given him the responsibility of gathering the lost twelve tribes of Israel from among western-European nations, in preparation for the Tribulation period. He leads the Efriam Society, a Netherlands based Christian group. He predicted that the rapture would occur before the end of 2001 -- perhaps on NOV-21. He had earlier predicted that the rapture would come on 2000-SEP. It didn't.
2001-NOV-21: On 2001-OCT-28, Paul Smirnov, an Orthodox Christian, predicted that an asteroid will suddenly destroy Los Angeles on NOV-21. He based the prophecy on Revelation 18, verses 2-3 and 21-23. Verses 2 and 3 refers to Babylon and wine which he translates to Los Angeles and immoral films. Verses 21 to 23 refers to a millstone, Babylon, various musicians, and craftsman which translate to asteroid, Los Angeles, the Grammy awards and film producers. He believed that the Antichrist would appear in 2001, going by the name King David.
2001-DEC-12: According to the Weekly World News for 2000-AUG-8, the Federal Government is suppressing information about the end of the world. They are aware that China and Iraq will attack Israel on this date and that the Battle of Armageddon will start -- an all-out nuclear war. The "end of all things" will occur on DEC-22. The News suggests that everyone who says "My life belongs to God" will be saved; everyone else will presumably be lost. If that was true, then an investment of $1.59 to buy a copy of the News is the best investment that one could ever make!
1999 to 2001: Stewart Best predicts that a small polar shift may occur. The polar inclination would increase from its present 23.5 degrees to about 22 to 45 degrees. An even larger shift will happen circa 2003 to 2007. See: http://www.truinsight.com/
Sometime in 2001: The Unarius Society received interstellar thought messages from a Pleiadean starship. They intended to land in the year 2001 on Atlantis, which will have risen from the depths of the earth in the Bermuda Triangle. Earth will join an alignment of 33 planets to form "Interplanetary Confederation for the Spiritual Renaissance of Humankind on Earth!"
Jack Van Impe Ministries sponsors the largest Evangelical Christian program devoted to end-time prophecy. In his home page, he discusses his book "On the Edge of Eternity" in which he predicted that the year 2001 will "usher in international chaos such as we've never seen in our history." He predicts that in 2001, and the years following, the world will experience "drought, war, malaria, and hunger afflicting entire populations throughout the [African] continent...By the year 2001, there will be global chaos." Islam will become much larger than Christianity. (That would take a sudden growth spurt; Islam is currently followed by About 20% of the world's population vs. 33% for Christianity). A one-world church will emerge; it will be "controlled by demonic hosts." Temple rituals (presumably including ritual animal sacrifice) would resume in Israel.
Elohim City is located in the Cookson Hills of eastern Oklahoma. Its 100 heavily armed inhabitants live under the leadership of Robert Millar, a former Mennonite preacher. They expected an invasion of the U.S. by Asians. He believes that a series of natural disasters would occur probably soon after the year 2000. The wicked and unworthy would be purged from the earth at that time.

About 2001: Jack van Impe once predicted that tumultuous events will happen about the year 2001. The Antichrist was to have appeared, and causes a seven year period of worldwide distress called the Tribulation. This will be followed by the Battle of Armageddon and the second coming of Christ. He has since changed his predictions, delaying them by many years into the future. His ministry continues to prosper, in spite of a string of failed prophecies.

  3. Predictions of TEOTWAWKI (The end of the world as we know it):
Circa 2001: Charles Spiegel, a retired psychology professor, preaches from a small town near San Diego CA that the ancient land of Atlantis will emerge from the Caribbean circa 2001 CE. Shortly thereafter, 1000 extra-terrestrials from "Myton" in 33 spaceships will land there and bring new knowledge to humanity.
2002-FEB-15: Monte Kim Miller, (b. 1954) is founder and prophet of the Concerned Christians -- group of at least 78 adults and children. Miller believes that the world was created circa 4000 BCE, and that the seventh millennium started on 2000-JAN-1. He states that the breaking of the seventh seal and sounding of the seventh trumpet mentioned in Revelation happened on 2002-FEB-15, the 777th day of the seventh millennium. This would indicate that the end of the world can happen at any time.
2002-MAR-24: Paul Smirnov, an Orthodox Christian, issued an Email to media, religious and music groups on MAR-20. It predicted that God would send an asteroid that will destroy Hollywood and the rest of Los Angeles on MAR-24. It will coincide with the Oscar ceremonies. He predicts that most residents of LA will not heed his warning and will needlessly die. He interprets Revelation 18, verses 2 and 21-23) as follows: The stone that an angel picks up is an asteroid.
"Babylon" is referring to Los Angeles.
The reference to harpists, musicians, craftsman and sorcery refer to Hollywood film producers.

2002-APR-14: Mike Keller Pure predicts that a ½ second before midnight on this date, something called the "Doomsgate" will open. Christ will return. Worldwide nuclear war will begin about MAY-29. The poles of the earth will shift, and there will be world-wide disasters.
2002-OCT-26 and NOV-8: Paul Smirnov has issued updates for the date on which he expects an asteroid to land on Los Angeles. These predictions did not come true either. He has also prophesied that the whole West (America and West Europe) is a modern Babylon whose economy will suddenly collapse in 2002. He believes that the Antichrist should appear in 2003.

  4. the idea that it says in the bible that the world will end in a certain year like 2000 or 2012 is complete fraudulent bullshit. Your article is also bullshit, especially in the way it describes christianity.

  5. Not my article, not my failed predictions.....

Not my words that apparently offended "your" religion.....

I do think however, the article points out how innacurate extremism can be....

  8. Gee, all those writers of long posts must be suffering from verbal diarrhea.

Here is a question. Right through history the Jews have been expecting the Messiah to appear.

Would anyone like to make a guess how many often, at different times during history, a Messiah has been expected to make an appearance ?

Would anyone be surprised if some doubt arises everytime someone makes a claim of 'the end is nigh'
