  3. babe714,

I've been going over the thread again, to include the only reference to the steps on the first page. It says "buy only". I was wondering what do you mean by "short side"?

Finally, if you don't mind, since it is a day trade only, would you be able to elaborate on the figures in the quote above? For example, is that net profit? How many trades? Winners/losers? Real money or sim trading?

    Regards,

    John

  4. John,
one should keep in mind regardless of how the op gets
his L figures the system is a simple breakout system which
makes sure you are in every huge upmove and most of the
time keeps you out of the downdays.this means you will
have many entry's in volatil ralleys where the spread is not
only a penny and therefor give more slippage as you will
read about in this tread. i run a simmilair system on some equity
futures with my own calcuations, i would recommend only
trade the long sides as bearmarket is a different game.
your profit factor will be lower and your drawdown higher
yet it still is net profitable, just wont give you the same results.
due to regulations one could day trade stocks only with a min
of usd25k. so to anser your question the short side is do-able
but will not give you the exact same profits.
i recommend to use systems like this one on futures
like the ym estox etc unless ofcourse one would have
enough funds to daytrade the stocks. i found results to be
better on the equity index futures but due to spreading the
systems capital on a portfolio of more liqued high quality
stocks like the OP is doing one could be able to produce a less
volatil and therefor more stable equity curve.

I believe somewhere early on in the thread its mentioned that it can be played long or short . Was just curious how it would turn out . To play short side , just take opening price minus L5% would be price to short at . then stop would be 7 cents above opening price , just opposite of playing long side.

Quoted figures are gross profits , commisions not figured in.Same way that Emin did early on when he was posting results . Emin does an analysis of # of trades , commish /year and it worked out to around 5% . Subtract 5% from yearly profits .

All paper trades , everyday after market close I pull up a 1minute chart of each stock and go over what results would have been using the method . Stock must always trade thru the calculated buy, sell , price etc. to count. Individual results will vary due to different data providers giving different opening prices . I don't have time right now to figure # of trades , win/loss etc.

I've been tracking the group of 5 ,HCBK MRVL RIMM JNPR SCHW also.

    short side
    4/23/09 till present -15.86

    long side
    4/29/09 till present +21.53

  6. babe714, flyingdutchmen,

Thank you for your posts. I appreciate it. I've been thinking about this for my stock account only, but I'll have to continue monitoring it to see how I might apply it.

    Regards,

    John

  7. one more thing to add..
market is dynamic, once 2*L5 figure is reached i recommend
raise sl to BE + 1penny and not close the position out before
the end of the current session, this way you will have either
a stoploss or an breakeven after the position is opened,
it will increase profitability, give equity a huge boost
and make the trade more "logical"

I realize this thread hasn't been responded to in a while but I really hope this comes back. It's been great.

I normally just read here and I know my opinion may not mean much but this is a very beautiful system! There are many beautiful aspects that I like about this system I don't even know where to start. I have a question if it's ok to ask, mainly for my own curiousity, but I really just appreciate it the way it is. Also, maybe I'm bias because I use a similar behavior system to trade (most good systems are similar, right?) Anyways, thanks for sharing! I hope you take some time to answer my questions.

    So my questions:

One: Since this is a trend based breakout intra-day algorithm is there ever a period where you can not find a market to trade based on the L5 or the system drawdown becomes significant? I know that during the downtime the system keeps you out of the long positions and that was very impressive, just curious about flat times with little volatility results.

Secondly along the same line of thought since you say that the entry point is based on the L5 calculations, is there any extended periods of time where the L5 entry points are simply not met? Time for some outdoor sun activities or vacation? :)

last one, also along the same line since you said that you prefer L5 with 2-3% what would be the net effect of L5 calculations if it were to be applied to a portfolio of stocks on a rotational basis chasing the highest L5s? If the net expectation is positive, why not chase higher L5s ? Because of the extended drawdown period?

Anyways, Thank you for sharing! I love your algorithm! Very beautiful.

sadly , looks like EMintrader has abandoned this thread . The daily range is increasing and the L5's should be increasing at this point .

my results to date for FSLR , SKF

    long side only +34.71 %

    short side only +42.71 %
