Oops. Thanks JD. Typo on the MACD. Went back and changed it. You're right 4,13,1. As for the Stochastic, I have started using a 5,5,2 on the 5M chart. If you are trading the 1M chart, I would still use the 6,5,2. I have also been using the Keltner channel for exits, just as no_PM. This helped me with a consistent method for profit management.
And to no pm....continued thanks. I too do not have the Chaiken OS and was trying to make the Chaiken money flow work with your system. I had set it at 10 with a 2 smoothing and was close, but I see the 20 is better. jd I have experiemented with many different indicators for divergence. It is amazing how much they all look alike. The key is the divergence, not always the indicator.
NPP Thanks for an interesting week.....I just discovered this thread and find your remarks to be very encouraging..you have a great system and no doubt you didn't find it overnight. I have a 2 yr. backtested divergence strategy that is SMA based and it works realtime. Also, I have another SMA strategy that shows when market direction change happens for real and early run low risk entry is shown very clearly or trade is not taken. Exits are 3 to 6 pts., depending on what 3 or 4 proven tools are showing me on the screen. When I begin trading again very soon, only these two strategies will be used, as they are the highest percentage entries I have found. No bar pattern trading and no external information allowed. Only trade what is if front of me on the screen...external information causes me to anticipate the market and trade the ext info, not the system. Greenspan days are rather spooky.
25k to 200k in 1.5 years... to obtain your 700% return in 1.5 years = 18 months (or 12.25% a month compounded), I assume you made no withdrawals... other than methodology: no withdrawals (assumption), the lack of significant drawdowns and the 2% per trade risk were collectively pivotal in such outstanding performance... if these results are genuine, they are amongst the best recent results that I am aware of (not including the easy money period of the tech bubble, when even idiots like me were making fantastic returns), and are not too dissimilar to what Marty Schwartz did with his grubstake... if you are legit (i.e. trading and achieving such returns with real money), I can only congratulate you... at your current rate of growth, you will have a $1million account in 14 more months (so that's a $25k account to a $1 million account in 32 months i.e. in just over 2.5 years)... and we ain't even in the bubble... way to go!
Continuing on from my above paragraph, and before anyone else makes this point, I fully understand that your methodology would actually have lost during the bubble, as it fades trends... but, nevertheless, if your way of picking divergences, double tops and double bottoms is actually producing these kinds of returns with real money, then I bow before you... forgive me for my skepticism, but it is only natural to be skeptical when faced with such a performance... please note that I am not suggesting you are a paper piker, but simply reserving my right to remain skeptical... moreover, given that your methodology is highly systemized, this makes a case for even greater skepticism (e.g. why hasn't every system trader, who fades trends and who has arrived at a similar approach, making such returns?)... as others have already said, you are not obliged to provide evidence of anything... and even if your performance is mere fiction, I have, nevertheless, gained some useful insights from your thread e.g. the unconventional use that you make of the ADX indicator...
I would point out that you need not question this gentleman since he is sharing his actual trading with all of you. He is making no claims here that you can not verify since he is calling his trades in real time. Just keep reading for several months and you may communicate with the first millionaire to post his fortune thru an ET journal. Wish more would do this. There is so much to learn. We are a small group and can really help each other.
There is no law against remaining skeptical about phenomenal performance, in the absence of documented evidence... I haven't accused the guy of anything, I have merely expressed my skepticism...
I'm using e-Signal and trying to set up some charts to follow along with this thread, but I'm having some trouble with the Chaikin Oscillator - the values on my charts aren't anywhere near the ones that are on the charts posted here. I downloaded the formulas from e-Signal and have them set to 10 for slow and 3 for fast, but I'm not sure if it's plotting the values based on volume since the scale at the right (and the chart) has values as extreme as +/- 15,000. Can anyone help me out on this? Thanks in advance, Sempai
Brother Candle, While I too am skeptical of any claims of profitability (betting against alleged winners is about an 80% probability trade)I see no reason why in a certain i.e. choppy market, this system can't grind it out. Keep in mind PM is leveraged 5 TIMES cash, so he really only has to take out about a pt. plus a day to achieve those returns. Twice in 19 years I've had runs where by overtrading while having a hot hand, I've taken several thousand into several hundred thousand in under a year. However the moment the market "changed" those hundreds of thousands of dollars turned into merely thousands of pennies.
