Yes I did notice that Magna. I'm looking forward to no_pm's input on our questions. Yours on the entry/stop loss placement on initiating a trade near the extremes, and mine on retest issue if a significant move is made on the triggering bar.

Just summing up what we've covered, hehe.

  2. Is anyone tracking this system with TradeStatoin 7.1?

I'm using TradeStation 7.1 and my charts are a little different than the ones posted here.

Attached are 3 charts I'm using emini, SP500 Pit and SP500 Composit. This was a snapshot from the mornings trade.

The charts that were posted a few messages above where from the Pit.

The Composit charts would have gotten me in at 993 and out at 989.

I didn't use the Pit chart because the Chaiklin was 0, not sure why it was 0.

Any one else using the Composit?

  4. Mike,

I believe you need to set your session
display to 630 to 115 (or whatever
your time zone) so the Chaikin etc.
is not starting to work from the overnight session. I believe that's
what no_pm is doing. This will definitely change your indicators, at least for the ES chart.

The Chaikin is at 0 on that chart because they aren't feeding you volume data.

And JackDaniel is right, you're charting too much data there to track the ADX and divergences correctly for this technique. You only want 8:30 - 3:15 central time.

    Hi,

I am using @SP.P for my symbol. Or else, you can use SPU03.P
The .P means the pit traded contract. You can use @ES.D or ESU03.D The .D means day session since it is an electronic contract. If you use @SP.P be sure to use tick volume, as the real volume is not broadcast through your TX7.1 feed. This is per the help desk. See if that helps.

The CME pit reporter enters prices into his terminal as bids and offers are shouted out. Whereas the ES contract, volumes are tracked by the CME computer.

I noticed early on in this thread how no pm mentioned that he uses a calculator for the keltner range.

Before the open this morning, I ran up this really tiny and extremely simple Excel sheet to run the range and stop loss calculation. Had it running today alongside my order entry software.

I plan to improve it. Obviously it can round up or down for proper stop placement on the ES. I'm favoring rounding up, since the stops are tight, but I'll wait on input from no pm before playing with that. Meanwhile it's easy to do mentally.

A lot of other things can be done with it, and I'm certainly open to suggestions, or feel free to revise it yourself.

Just enter the top and bottom Keltner line figures, B5 and B6 (I was entering the numbers for the bar prior to the trigger bar, then revising them with the trigger bar numbers once it seemed it would hit). Then enter your entry price, either long or short, B10 or B12. Read the corresponding short or long stop to enter, B15 or B17. Round up or down to the nearest .25 as desired.

Very ugly and needs improvement, but it's a start, and simpler than using a calculator! Oh, it helps to keep the data window open in TS if that's what you're using. That way the numbers to input are right in front of you. A reminder, this is not essential to trading with this technique. It's just a convenience.

P.S. I've protected the cells containing formulas, so you can't accidentally click on them and mess it up. If you'd like to change anything, just unprotect the sheet via the tools menu. It's not password protected or anything. I can convert this to Works format if anyone needs it, but that's the extent of my ability to convert it to a different format, for the moment. Hopefully anyone who wants to run this has Excel.

  9. Sorry I couldn't be here yesterday.

Tuesday I went out for lunch. I got back 15min. before the FED announcement and went to check the market. My system was dead...no power...nothing. I took the box to a computer store and they found the power supply had died. I asked them to upgrade the system to a new cpu, case, and motherboard. I came back at 5 to get it before I went to work. They couldn't get the Appian Jeronimo Pro card to work. Everything else was fine. I left it with them and brought my user manual and driver cd over yesterday morning. It turned out to be a nightmare to do the install over again. They gave up around noon. I went to Best Buy and found a dual AGP video card and a single PCI card from the same brand. I brought them back to the store and asked them to install those cards and pull out the Appian. I came back about 5 and the system was ready. I started it this morning and it crashed (page faults) every few minutes along with lockups. I've been screwing with it for the past hour and now it seems stable (no crashes in the last 20 min.). I'll download prices since Tuesday from Globalserver and catch up on the thread. Hopefully the drama is over for a while.

Need to get some coffee so I'm going to make a run while Globalserver runs. Be back soon (unless I start crashing again).

Wow, sorry about all the trials and tribs with your system. Certainly was stressful; hopefully it's all over now.

    Welcome back!
