Fair enough about the marketplace. Does Twitter offer a similar service? i don’t hate him. His intensity is admirable. But he’s been dishonest and skirted rules left and right without any care. He’s a narcissist. I think the freedom of speech is a ploy. He is tapping the same group of people that trump did to satisfy his own ego. It’s also likely that he’s using this to liquidate his Tesla stock. He’s done it several times before. How else did he have 10 billion laying around to buy Twitter stock but somehow “needed to sell” 10 billion of Tesla stock to pay his taxes. But people think he’s on a freedom of speech crusade.
I think people just keep forgetting that Elon is a businessman and just like any businessman, he is out to make a buck.
Just about anyone in high power is going to be a little bit corrupt. You can say the same about hillary, obama, warren buffet, bill gates, nancy peloski, all of them corrupt, even Trump. You mean Republicans? That's understandable, because without a doubt the news from most big companies is censored in favor of democrats. Why wouldn't republicans want free speech? And Elon promoting free speech on Twitter means that Republicans and democrats will have an equal oppertunity to promote their news, and it won't be biased to any political party. Elon is also a Republican, so why wouldn't a Republican promote something they believe in? And he's not just promoting what he believes in, he's still giving democrats a chance to promote their beliefs on his platform.
Free speech is a multi edge sword. It gives radical ideas an avenue for discourse. We have been used to left leaning radical ideas since the 60s and the general centrist leaning consensus is inclusion. But Trump and co have pulled the sheet off the radical right ideas and somehow made them almost mainstream and today's great American schism revolves around what free speech is. However much I dislike right wing discourse on most social issues, I think it's important not to stifle those voices, precisely because extreme ideas usually propagate in the dark. The public square ought to dare all to speak up. I think Musk believes this and wants Twitter to be the public square, without subjective minders to control the square. However, he (and I) believe anyone who speaks must take responsibility for their words and he aligns with European rules on free speech: anyone who speaks must be identifiable, and anyone who slenders must be ready to face justice. With great rights come great responsibilities. Musk also wants to rid Twitter of the propaganda machines that overwhelm the square, from 2 bit peddlers to powerful dark money. The square should be an avenue for discourse, not an MMA hexagon. So yes, I think Musk is driven by a fundamental common good goal. He also believes that if he can make money from it, even better.
Adding that under best circumstances, 20% of Musk's followers are spam/fake accounts and possibly as high as 40%, according to recent research. Twitter wants to enforce the deal? Good luck there unless it's 30% less than his present offer, there is no deal.
I missed it while watching the interview because he says it very fast while the others are laughing out loud, he says he will be voting republican this time, having voted democrat in the past. He has a lot of follower and fans.. There is going to big red wave by the sound of things this November.
So many incorrect things... 1. Like no war for oil, healthcare for all, abortion? Those are normal in most Western democracies. 2. Trump did nothing but lied and spread dangerous propaganda. That is not free speech. 300K morons are dead because they believed him over doctors. 3. Musk only believes in money and flattering. 4. He never takes responsibility for the stupidity he spreads, thus the Twitter sitter and lawsuits. Remember the pedo shit he got into? That was slender alright. 5. He doesn't really care he just needs an excuse to back out of the deal. So somehow you think he became this justice warrior. He never was, never will be.
I don't disagree with your ideas, I'm addressing US reality. 1. Healthcare for all and abortion rights are among the seismic differences between right and left in America. 2. For all his many, many faults, Trump was elected. It's those who elected him who should be held responsible. 3. Whatever 4. It's good thing Musk was dragged in court over his pedo tweets. I hope it serves as an example for the way Twitter is run in the future. 5. I'd like to see him back out of the deal, because whatever he does with Twitter will affect Tsla share price. I don't give 2 shits about Twitter but care a lot about Tsla.
I don't think anyone you listed above is corrupt except for Trump, hillary, and pelosi. This will become a politics topic real fast (about conservatives and liberals) so I will avoid that. But I don't believe Elon actually cares about free speech. I think Elon cares about his free speech and he cares about having all the attention on himself. You'll know if he's for free speech if he shuts down the guy whose tracking his jet. He's tried to silence him with money and that hasn't worked so far. Other than his liquidation of tesla stock, this is 100% about narcissism. His whole plan may have been to spend the billion to walk away and this is just to get attention and keep the spotlight on him.
