"Elizabeth Warren promises to cancel most student loan debt" I'm all for it. Can I file an amended return on this? Call it restitution. I want my piece of the pie dammit. I'm tired of getting f'd by bad timing. No more maga. Free sh*t for all!
Aren't most loans offered by 3rd parties such as Sallie Mae (or whatever new name it became) or other lending institutions? I did not get a dime from the school, I just filled out the financial aid forms and dealt with 3rd parties. The school just wanted to get paid.
Have then do volunteer work or some sort of community service to work off some of the loan, I know San Fran has a deuce problem that needs to be addressed.
I'm saying since the schools are the beneficiaries of this money and they are facilitating the loans through their admissions departments that they bear at least some responsibility for these loans down the road, considering they're not being totally honest or forthcoming about the entire process. They also set the ridiculously high price of tuition which has gone through the roof over the past 30 years while at the same time the quality of education has gone down.
And as a perfect example of the complete horseshit they are charging top dollar for I offer this little gem. Students and parents should burn this fucking school to the god damn ground for scams like this. Yeah, pays tens of thousands for a worthless degree in the humanities which are loaded with bullshit classes like this, taught by some lunatic leftist, but there's no indoctrination going on. Wake the fuck up. The University of Kansas is set to offer a new course next school year called “Angry White Male Studies,” The Associated Press reported. The class, which the school’s academic catalog says will examine "the rise of the ‘angry white male’ in America and Britain since the 1950s, exploring the deeper sources of this emotional state" https://thehill.com/homenews/state-...-of-kansas-offering-course-on-angry-white-men
Education is a scam in a sense. You don't need 3-4 years to learn, say programming. You could learn a computer science course in a year, or 2 max. Anything more than that is just money sucking business. The world has made you to believe that knowledge and education could only be obtained when you attend a school/university. Companies should stop giving privilege or priorities to those who graduated from universities, instead employ those who could prove they own the skills.
There are some ugly truths about our post secondary educational system that need to be addressed before any serious discussion about loan forgiveness can begin. Number one being the overall cost in and of itself. As you state there are far too many programs which take much too long to complete. It's just putting a body in a chair for an extra 2-3 years and for what? Money of course. Another thing, more of a societal issue, is that most 18 year olds are not mature enough to enter the workforce. College has become little more than a daycare center used to house these adolescents as they transition into adulthood with the hope that by the time they're 22 or so they will at least be responsible enough to show up on a daily basis to some entry level job. We need more entry level apprentice type positions for 18 year olds who aren't interested in college. If people want a government subsidy, subsidize that. This type program should cover more than the trades, it could cover every job, any job. When I was an apprentice I came in at a lower rate than the journeymen. My VA benefit made up a good portion of the difference, not 100% but close. Every six months my benefit went down, but I also got a pay raise as I progressed. After 4 years I was at full pay and the VA benefit ended. I would support a program like that for all young people, and I think it would be a benefit to all parties involved. Bottom line, if you're going to tax me for some program, then tax me for a program that has some long term benefit. Taxing me just so these colleges can keep finally raping society is a non starter.
This is all true and the college system was dictated by the upper class that could afford to send their prodigies away for four years to learn a wide array of subjects. So we modeled our post secondary education system on a wasteful model. We can certainly rethink college.
In the name of driving down student debt, Someone should ask Elizabeth Warren and all her commie professor buddies if they would be willing to take a 50% haircut on their wage, given the fact that she gets paid 400k a year to teach 1 class.
I don't think free college is a good idea. The student needs to be invested in it. The key is to make that investment proportional across all the income groups while lowering it through public assistance.
