The real glory days of vinyl mixing was probably 1984-1989. 2 (or 3) Technics SL-1200MK with Numark mixers, Blaupunkt Preamps & Cerwin Vega speakers. That was my weekend set up mostly. My specialty was Acid House (London House) & Rave (Hardcore). My favorite type of music was Hip House which was a blend of dance rap & Acid House. By 1993 most of the specialty DJ record stores I used to go to were going out of business. The best for British & European dance music was Butch Wax Records in the Castro district in SF. Star Records in Hayes Valley was the best for US records. Hollywood used to have a lot of good record stores once upon a time as well. That's how quickly people transitioned to CD mixing. Although if you watch some of the great Dutch DJs when they do huge live events they do still use Vinyl like DJ Tiesto, Paul van Dyk & Armin van Buuren.
