I don't expect too much from government, but clearly there is nothing we can do apart from abiding their rules

9-cents is cheap, like BTC mining cheap (commercial is probably around 4.5 if residential is 9).

I have similar and there is a nuclear power station about 15 miles away.

Where are you located that does not allow batteries?

That is truly fucking insane. YOU own the solar panels. You made the investment to install them, but the municipality (or state) makes it illegal to be able to store that which YOU generate with your own equipment?

So they are saying that they own the sun, and SUNLIGHT. That is beyond the pale outrageous.

Their excuse is that the batteries are "dangerous", so they wont issue permits to install them. But to be honest, it's not really financially worth it to have a battery. The Tesla Powerwall is $10,500 but only stores 13.5 kwh or a little over $1 worth of power. My solar produces about 7000 kWh per year and I sell about 2500 kWh back to the power company per year which I get $150 for. So it would take quite a long time for that powerwall to pay for itself. Probably longer than its lifespan.

To be honest, its probably a good thing as it stops homeowners from making a financially dumb decision while at the same time keeping everyones rates low and affordable.

Good practical points, but i live in one of the other 7 states in TVA., north AL is in that system:caution::caution:TVA=reasonable hydroelectric + coal power.
Plenty of other things one can do, plant some trees\the kind that drop leaves in winter + grow leaves in spring=cool in very sense of the word.
And i wish i had discovered electric blankets years ago:caution::caution:[Partial disclosure,i dont live in AL]
