In North Carolina Budd is leading Beasley now with over 55% of the vote in. Beasley was leading Budd earlier in the Senate race when only the early votes and small number of precincts had reported. This follows the typical pattern in our state in recent years where Democrats tend to vote early and in state-wide races the early returns favor Democrats and then the Republican candidate catches up (and overtakes) the Democrat in the returns as the evening progresses. Former N.C. Governor Pat McCrory was on NBC (election coverage) earlier this evening and commented about this.
