I'm not a Constitutional expert... but as I read it... it's crystal clear. He CAN run even if convicted. And you're right, I do get my information from the news or wherever. Where am I supposed to get it? Aside from delving into the finer minutia of the Constitution? I only quoted quoted NPR because that was at the top of the Google search, but underneath it were a half dozen sources that said the same thing. The same thing being even if he is convicted.. and even given jail-time... he can still run. Now if you can find evidence contrary to that from a reliable source... by all means... show us. Like I said... this is not my forte... but I gotta think if an NPR reporter wrote that... they probably did their DD and it's probably true. EDIT: Obviously you do have a reference.... "I said if convicted. The law is clear on that." By all means... share with us.
Oh definitely. And Trump would want to run all the harder to be elected and then pardon himself. They are not going to get to trial and through all the appeals before the election anyway.
Impeachment. How can anyone in the senate not impeach him if he gets convicted for the currently much more serious accusations? America would loose every respect from the rest of the world if US individuals who get convicted for the current charges still can run for president? And that even from prison. Not even the dumbest trumper can justify such. If there is no other path to prevent him from running, DOJ will certainly wait until he is confirmed president for a 2nd term (if successful) and then convict him. I can't possibly imagine Trump from being president and having been convicted of those charges
This is a little out there but we don’t know if Trump is connected to missing documents either. Theoretically there could be some top secret stuff still “in the wild” as they say. If the DOJ is still trying to track documents they believe Trump has he can theoretically be detained. While I’m on the issue of the documents, it’s also important to note that those 37 or so charged documents are agreed upon to be released for court proceedings by the various intelligence agencies. It is more than likely among the 300 plus classified documents Trump held, there were plenty so top secret that the DOJ chose not to charge them because they would have to then be released to the court.
Here in the states we have a two House legislature, the House and the Senate. The way impeachment works, or in this case barring someone from holding office, is the house “impeached” the person, ie charges them and the senate holds a trial and “convicts” them. For example, Donald Trump was impeached twice but never convicted in the senate. It is important to note that 2/3 of the senate must vote to convict or the person is acquitted.
That may be but the part of the discussion that I can see (missing parts due to people I have on ignore) And was/is about whether he could still run. If he is detained, obviously he cannot "run" if by "run" one means "be out campaigning." But if by "run" one means "continue to present himself and be eligible as a candidate for the President of the United States, then there is nothing that can stop him from doing that or being elected if the people vote for him, even if he is in a solitary confinement facility in Colorado. Nothing. And if he is elected while in solitary confinement (I give theoretical example) he can be and will be president of the United States for four years unless he dies. resigns or is removed through impeachment. And of course if he were confined, he could just pardon himself as president after the election. Also, no state can enact legislation to remove him from their ballot and all sorts of other foolish ideas floating around. Just as all those attempts to remove him or others who refused to show their tax returns were and are totally foolish and headed nowhere. The Constitution and the Constitution alone determines who is eligible to be president.
Gonna say it again as I have said it before... indictments without convictions are meaningless so lets all calm down until trump is actually convicted of something meaningful. that conviction of sexually harrassing the woman in the civil trial? meaningless in the election and to voters except to those who were never going to vote for him anyway... also a civil trial was word v. word and jury picked her. Could have been a coin toss.
Meaningless perhaps but it would be nice to get an indictment or two on Joe Biden to let him chew on that while he is out campaigning too. Let the voters figure out how meaningless that is. Not how it works in a banana republic though.
Trump supporters dont care about indictments...but if he.committed the crime and is convicted..that is.another story. If trump wins he can lock up Joe like he promised.to.lock up Hillary..
The Oversight Committee should continue to move on Biden and expose his corruption and damage his campaign to the maximum possible just to fend off the political hit job they did and make them pay. This is not for Trump to do or to serve just Trump. Biden should be given a full dose of "no man is above the law" treatment. Take no prisoners. When the dems wanted Trump they offered a full fucking million dollar reward to Christopher Steel if he could produce any evidence to support the Russian hoax and he could not. Are they offering million dollar rewards to people to find dirt on Biden? Didn't think so.
