Election 2024 Foreplay

  1. And ditto for the dems.

"Drifting with Joe" is okay for a few more weeks- or less.

Then it ain't. Decisions need to be made. And if Joe stalls and plays games with mixed signals, then the more adventuresome ones need to move ahead on their own anyway. As Newsom is already.

Newsom is definitely setting the table for big future prospects in the Democratic Party but he ain’t doing anything unless Joey B doesn’t run. Maybe you’ll get Marianne Williamson or some look but there won’t be much going on unless the SITTING PRESIDENT decides not to run. Don’t get me wrong it’s not like the dem platform will be a pledge of loyalty to Biden like y’all did with Trump - big mistake then huh? The Dems will have a real convention and voices will be heard but don’t expect any capable democrats putting up a challenge to a sitting president.

I’m starting to think Trump can win this thing from a jail cell if these idiots on the right don’t start putting up fight ASAP. DeSantis is getting the reputation that he scared of Trump. And when he finally does decide to stand up for himself it will look pathetic just like Ted Cruz and Lil Marco.

These guys need to attack him unrelentingly. Pugnaciousness is how you win the Republican primary in the modern era. Oh and don’t ever have voted and said you were for cutting social security and Medicare.

  4. I don't disagree with that.

My point was and I said that if Joe plays games, some of them such Newsom need to nevertheless start in some form so that they are out campaigning while waiting for Joe.

Newsom has a ruse going where he is going to all these red states and the like under the guise of campaigning for the party in prep for 2024. Yeh right. He is campaigning for himself. He knows that Joe is going to dick around because if he does not run then he wants to delay becoming a lame duck to the last possible day. Then if he does not run, Newsom's dicking around and fund raising for his pac which is allegedly for doing generic dem stuff is easily converted over to Newsom specific stuff. And if Joe does run, then he get points for having been out there flying the dem flag.

  6. Nope. They are playing it right for this stage of the game.

The next stage- a month away or so- then maybe.

They want Trump's votes- the ones that are moveable or independents- who want a Trump but in a less chaotic and drama-queen package.

There is a timing to this and some of them properly see it. They are hanging with Trump on this NY ordeal. That is not the hill they want to die on.

What are you looking for from Biden? The field is clear, he doesn’t need to do anything right now.

But let’s say Biden is ducking around and drops out when would be the best time to announce he is not running for reelection? June?

You and I don’t disagree that the republicans think attacking Trump will alienate his voters from supporting them. It’s the most obvious thing. But I contend it is an enormous mistake. Trump won by being tough while everybody else was late to the game last go around. This is Hearns v Haggler, not rope a dope Thiller in Manila. The time is now.

It’s the biggest case of analysis paralysis I’ve ever seen. Here is a guy who is indicted for paying hush money to a porn actress for a tryst he had while his wife - THE FORMER FIRST LADY - was at home with his newborn son. Hello? Is anyone home? What more do you need?

Trump has the majority of support of the republican electorate, not a plurality. The longer he holds/grows the support the stickier it will become.

  9. Biden does not have an immediate need. That is my point- he is all set. Why does he want to become a lame duck any earlier than necessary?

The problem is all with those who want to take his place- but need lead times because the primaries are coming right up and require lots of ground work. Usually, unless you are Lyndon Johnson or something, if you are in your first term, it is assumed that you are going to run so that dilemma is not there. So he is sort of putting the screws to them every day that goes by without clarity from here. He already said before that he would announce in February didn't he? So he is sort of messing with them.

If we were on a parliamentary system he could hold on until almost the end and then announce that he is leaving and they have a snap election wit a month-long campaign or something. But we don't. The primaries are there and must be dealt with- on their timetables and they require a lot of fundraising.

The best time for the dem party for Joe to announce would be right now. The best time for selfish Joe and his needs would be off in October or something.

There is the Kamala factor in all of that. Not sure how it plays out but figuring out what the hell she is up to- or needs to be told what she is up to- is a factor.

  10. Again, I don't disagree. It is just that you think they should have started hard with the hand to hand combat on long ago, and I think it is inevitably coming but is or should be six weeks away. With the exception that they should rise to defend any allegations against them that come up but try to avoid going on the offense for another six weeks or so. Give or take.

People like Christie would/will follow your recommendation - ie. let Trump know right off that his campaign is going to be going face-to-face with Trump. And that will be entertaining if he does. Christie is also headed nowhere too because the hand to hand combat stuff is all he does- so there is that.

We don't know. No one has a fine tuning knob on the timing. We are in a period where they should not just be becoming an attack dog against Trump - but at the same time, they should not let Trump wipe his feet on them. It is between those two guardrails that they must walk. The voters can tell though whether a candidate is justifiably responding to a Trump assault or whether they are just playing swinging dick games with Trump.
