President Biden is seeing warning signs with independent voters nearly a year out from Election Day, with new polls suggesting he’s losing support from a crucial group poised to decide who will next serve in the White House. Independent voters reported a lackluster 36 percent approval rating of Biden in an NBC News poll taken in mid-September, and 3 in 5 Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents in a Washington Post-ABC News poll said they want a nominee other than Biden. The numbers could mean trouble for Biden in the general election, especially if it’s a rematch against former President Trump. “There are going to be a fair number of cross-pressured voters — including many people who consider themselves independents — who hold a negative view of Biden and Trump. These are the folks who are going to decide the election,” said Kyle Kondik, managing editor of Sabato’s Crystal Ball at the University of Virginia Center for Politics. Trump’s support among likely Republican primary voters, meanwhile, has seen a continued surge despite facing a myriad of legal troubles, but that’s a different matter among voters who are not staunchly GOP. Trump led the GOP presidential field with 67 percent of Republicans, but that number dwindles to 47 percent when it comes to those who lean Republican — a 20-point disconnect — a recent Quinnipiac University poll found. In August, that gap was 17 percent, with 62 percent of Republicans and 45 percent of GOP-leaning voters. Among independents, Biden earned a 36 percent approval rating on his job handling in the Washington Post-ABC News poll. Asked to look back on Trump’s job handling, 47 percent of that group said they approved of the former president — and the pollsters note that comparison with Biden could be a factor in Trump’s retrospective rating. Persistent concerns about Biden’s age also permeate the polling, while voters don’t appear as worried about Trump’s. At 80, Biden is the oldest sitting president, and 80 percent of independents in the Post-ABC poll said Biden is too old for another term. By contrast, 58 percent of independents said the same of Trump, who at 77 is only a few years younger. In 2020, Biden led Trump by nearly 10 points with independents. Fifty-two percent of independent voters supported Biden, compared to 43 percent supporting Trump, according to Pew Research Center. Independents nearly split their vote in 2016, with 43 percent supporting Trump and 42 percent supporting Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. Biden’s lead over Trump with the independent voting bloc in 2020 was essential to his success in winning back swing states Clinton had lost.
Thanks to former President Donald Trump, Republicans have closed the gap with Democrats on the number of people who say the GOP cares about people like them. Back in 2016, Democrats enjoyed a 13-point lead on the question of “which party cares about people like me?” Democrats earned 43 percent, while the GOP sat at just 30 percent. This is frequently described as the “empathy question.” In just seven years, those numbers have moved dramatically in the GOP’s direction and into a statistical tie. Currently, 39 percent believe the Republican Party cares about people like me (a nine-point jump), while 41 percent say the same about Democrats (a two-point loss). Since 2016, the GOP has closed its deficit against the Democratic Party on the question of caring about “people like me.” Additionally, Donald Trump’s party has taken a lead over Joe Biden’s on this question among middle-income households, people without a college degree and white people, and has cut the Democratic Party’s advantage among voters of color — most notably Black voters. At the same time, voters are far more likely to say the Republican Party cares about elites than the Democratic Party (62% to 47%), even as the two parties run neck and neck on the question of caring about working-class Americans. So what’s changed since 2016? Only one thing, and that’s Trump. Get a load of this… Despite billions and billions of dollars in corporate media propaganda… Despite Democrats wholly owning the propaganda machines of Hollywood, academia, Big Tech, and Big Business… Despite almost all of that propaganda aimed at smearing Trump and his supporters as the KKK (which was a Democrat Party organization), the GOP has improved its standing with black people while Democrats lost standing. Think about the 24/7 crusade to divide America across racial lines, and then look at this… Back in 2016, only 12 percent of black people said the GOP cared about them. But after seven years of non-stop propaganda, that number has climbed nine points to 21 percent. Seven years ago, 71 percent of black people said Democrats cared about them. That is now down seven points to 64 percent. That’s a 16-point swing in the GOP’s favor in the face of the most hateful, well-funded, coordinated hate campaign this country has ever seen. The numbers also moved the GOP’s way with Hispanics. In 2016, Democrats enjoyed a 56 to 33 percent advantage on the empathy question. Today, after seven years of “kids in cages” and countless other lies, the gap has narrowed to 51 to 38 percent. That’s a ten-point swing. A mere seven years ago, Democrats enjoyed a 41 to 29 percent advantage among those without a college education. Today, the GOP leads 40 to 38 percent. That’s a 14-point swing. On every metric, despite this all-out media/Hollywood/academic/big business assault to paint the MAGA movement as the Third Reich, the GOP gained while Democrats lost
Sad but true. All my life every black person I know hated republicans, now many are or are considering voting for them.Every one of them say they wont be voting for Biden.Multiple polls show the republican nominee getting 20% of the black vote in 2024. Way to go Joe!!!!
It’s @Tony Stark ’s worst nightmare. Biden winning the electoral college and losing the popular vote…
The Big Lie The racist Democrats had to die off before the New Republicans got the power to fix the South
There was a brief discussion on Bloomberg this morning that touched upon this. The old guy there, Tom the Lefty, was interviewing the Editor in Chief of Gallup and he walked into a question that did not go quite as he expected. He asked the Gallup guy- slight paraphrase- "Trump and the Republicans are running a campaign of grievances. Is this going to go way anytime soon or is it going to be with us for a long time.?" To which, the Gallup guy replied: "It is going to be with us for a long time, and it actually started before Trump. That is why so many Democrats came out for Trump when he first ran." OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPSIE DAISY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't bullsh@t yourself. Any poll showing that Biden would win is a nightmare for both republicans and democrats. You need to be moving that potato out while the moving is good. Otherwise it is going to be one messy chapter in American history. Try acting like an American rather than Democrat.
