is a very down-to-Earth,humble, and GENUINE statesman. We are very fortunate to have had him serve our Country. Sometimes you really don't appreciate what you have until they leave and you get an ELAINE CHOW!!! Cramer just happens to be right on this one. If you are expecting a certain number, and the number you get is not to your liking - - - it's time to eat crow rather than spin and highlight the "household employment" number. CHOW is not genuine. She is a pompous and arrogant CHEERLEADER and it shows.
Sadly this lack of accountability is becoming the hallmark of the current Administration. When W passed the buck on the WMD issue by blaming faulty intelligence I was really ashamed of the Presidency. The folks at the top need to do it better than the next guy, and failing that they should suck it up and take responsiblity. And clearly not just the GOP is failing at this, as there is a critical need at all levels of government as well as business management for people that are true leaders. I'm concerned that government will soon fail to attract anyone of merit at all before long.
Oh, and don't forget the fact that BUSH is for PROTECTIONISM. This is in stark contrast to Kennedy and Reagan who were for FREE TRADE and NO TARIFFS.
Missing the point? She's ethnic, a woman, and pretty hot looking for an old broad. That's all that REALLY matters. (And oh yeah... she's ABLE to tell us where the job creation is, just unwilling. All that stimulus and debt spending cannibalization going on here is creating an economic BOOM!!... in China, India, Indonesia, etc.)
It is hard to phrase this with all due respect due to a head of state. But.... Mr. Bush's (Jr.) stance on free trade (he's against it) is a dead give-away as to his stature on economic issues. He's dumb.
I can remember a while back, being on Waxie's free email list and in order to find his current picks, one would have to wade through his commentary on politics. At the risk of sounding arrogant, I can remember thinking how ignorant he was. There is no such thing as "free trade". It comes at a cost. Those that claim to be for free trade will be the first to complain when manufacturing jobs move to less regulated countries. A FREE CAPITALISTIC nation will continue to thrive. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/walterwilliams/ww20031126.shtml http://www.eagleforum.org/column/2003/nov03/03-11-26.shtml Exactly how is Bush 43 a protectionist? Examples please.
OK, I can think of 503 examples but here is a big ticket item that really affects young American families trying to buy their first home. Bush has imposed a 27% Softwood Lumber tariff on framing lumber coming from Canada to build American homes. This stuff has been coming in from Canada to keep housing prices down since the 1800's but Bush 43 got sucked in by a lumber lobby and there you go. Dumb. Dumb, and Dumber. They buy our Dell computers with Intel chips and we buy their lumber, its called free trade. Bush doesn't get it. Dumb. I'm not saying he is arrogant or bossy or anything, just plain stupid.
Five hundred million dollars is a fair sized chunk of cash. It is one of the possible (but likely inflated) yearly price tags to implement the new Forest Practices Code and it is also the windfall profit that the B.C. forest industries will gain if the softwood lumber tariff is removed. http://www.bcen.bc.ca/bcerart/Vol5/thesoftw.htm Pretend the tariff is a stock, and do some DD. As stated earlier, there is no such thing as free trade. Now exactly who is it that doesn't get it? Ok.....now how about those other 502 examples?
Whoa, so far we have collected $1.121B US at the border on this tariff alone. This money came out of US consumers pockets in the form of price hikes. It hurts our young families, it breaks our word on NAFTA, and it is cheating. Even Home Depot and Lowes have asked the administration "what the hell are you doing?" Actually, there is such a thing as free trade. If products made in the US have a certificate saying "made in USA" then Canada lets them in absolutely free of duty. Pretty good deal for us, and very embarassing when we use our size to cheat them in return. The Canadians don't need us to tell them how to manage forests anymore than they need us to tell them how to play hockey or produce maple syrup. In this case, who pays the price when some "plilosopher" pontificates " there is no such thing as free trade" HELLO young American families pay. I have decided there is no such thing as snow. It is really just a visualization of water. Tell that to my pals in NY this weekend. Want another significant trade example, check out Durum wheat, (variety that makes pasta).
