If you thiink africa is backwards now, just imagine how primitive it would be without colonization! Same with a lot of central and south american countries.
Remember- everyone was conquered at one time or another.
One cannot deny the enormous benefits such as infrastructure, educations, medicine, and other advancements that were brought by colonization. Its palpable.
Slavery still goes on today in independent african countries. That would not be the case if that country was controlled by a european country.

  2. And yet, if you ask the citizens of these countries, if they would like to be colonized in order to achieve a higher living standard, you will get the same reply every time im sure

That could also be used as an excuse as to why that country is not able to succeed on its own. Perhaps those countries require european colonization to thrive. Without it, you have Haiti, almost every country in africa and central america.
I can see why this reality is hard for some people to admit.

  4. Could be, of course. But who says that all countries NEED to have the same living standard?

I just read an amazing book, Sapiens. In one of the last chapters he writes about how the colonization is a black&white thing and how it contributed to the wellbeing of previously colonized countries.

On the other hand, plenty of cultures were "lost" due to colonization. Plenty of old religions gone. Languages gone.

The philosophical question here is do we want the whole world to be the same? Or do we appreciate diversity?

LMAO so conquered colonized nations should be grateful being taken advantage of at gunpoint for their resources (free or mostly free labor, agricultural and mineral), then leaving them to fight among themselves. "Blame the victim".

Same as the poor Coca farmers in the Andes are to blame, not the hyped-up Americans wanting a late night blast out on the town.

The fact is that colonization by europeans brought modern technology to extremely primitive/ violent area’s and made them much better; specifically africa and central and south america. They are still killing and enslaving one another even today AFTER the europeans left the new advanced colonies to the africans who now destroyed it. Just look at South Africa.
The native americans were already killing and enslaving one another before the europeans arrived. that said, discovering new land and colonization was NORMAL for that time.
